And "thermonuclear pandemic", don't forget that.

It's useful for people whose life's mission is bashing China and overthrowing its government. Everything is an opportunity to them.

The announcement by Ma Xiaowei that the virus can spread before symptoms appear (if they ever do) is concerning, however. How troubling a development do you consider this? Given that the virus's genome has already been sequenced, how quickly can a vaccine be put together?

Very likely that by the time a vaccine is ready for clinical use (say, a year, optimistically, going by historical precedent), the virus will probably have already spread enough such that a vaccine will only really be useful for countries that haven't had it.

It will take time to verify the exact way the virus spreads will continue to take a while. If it can be spread before symptoms appear, then that will obviously make it harder to control the spread of it.

Finally, I wouldn't place the blame solely to the anti-China people who have an interest in making it seem like the "sky is falling". Some people want to exaggerate things to advance their own exposure, some people are just a lot more trigger-happy with posting alarming news in general, some people may be genuinely scared and latch onto the most exaggerated news due to fear, and there are some people who are anti-vaxxers, racists, or general trolls as well, all on social media.
Some may be spreading disinformation deliberately, some maybe doing so unknowingly.

now the number of infected has increased to 2744 & the deaths to 80, I know people in these cases usually say "prepare for the for worst hope for the best" but in this case, I believe the current crisis is far much worse than the 2002 SARS.

Yangtze River over flooding once cost China in one year $25 billion in damage. They spent $25 billion to build the Three Gorges Damn which critics said wouldn't do anything and was a big waste of money. They haven't had a devastating flood since. They say this virus has cost about $40 billion so far. Well if this started from one of these exotic markets like it's been reported, maybe they should ban them outright. I read there was a temporary ban. Even if people were doing it illegally, that in itself would be a form of containment and buy time and would be easier to track the source.

Considering the virus jumped from a wild animal to a human, it is highly highly unlikely that the virus has any kind of ethnicity specificity. The virus doesn’t even care if its host is human or not... In fact, I personally have not heard any human-infecting virus has any kind of specificity toward a single ethnic group.

They published the virus genome dna code, but what if there are more aggresive or deadly strains that either jumped/developed in parallel or later mutated or mutates. Any chance for a chrono virus strand to end up a civilization ender?

Brumby sounds like he an authority in the field of virology.
Hahaha You got fooled. His specialty is sounding like an expert at everything to people who are not experts or take time to dissect his arguments. Those who are experts or take the time to read his citations to challenge him soon find his arguments absolutely nothing but anti-China trash riddled with errors in every step from logic to interpretation to basic reading comprehension.

Can we not post unverified footage and pictures from social media please?

I can verify from relatives. Cities in Henan are already doing it. Uncle says even many workplaces are closed in Zhengzhou. We don't know the magnitude tho.

That's a mortality rate of 2.9%, as opposed to SARS with 8,098 cases and 774 deaths, a mortality rate of 9.6%. How is it far worse than SARS? The media is far more incentivized to fearmonger now than during SARS, because China wasn't a competitor to America in 2003. It's slander, innuendo, and spreading FUD to serve a geopolitical agenda, plain and simple.

That's not to say it isn't a serious cause for concern, but it's being blown way out of proportion. Contrast this with something that should be taken seriously but isn't: influenza. Influenza hospitalizes between 140,000 to 810,000, and kills between 12,000 and 61,000 annually.
