While I agree that those particular HK nurses' political demands have nothing to do with the situation at hand, all staff including nurses at HK public clinics and hospitals are already routinely overworked and it is a fundamental systemic issue that has been brewing for years and is past time to be addressed by local authorities.
Normally, I won't have an issue with what you're saying. I know exactly how hard public employees like nurses, and like myself, a lecturer work. (I have worked in both private and public organisations.)
But trouble is, their grievance is driven by ideology and politics as opposed to the working conditions. They are calling for the strikes simply to get at the government, for their own version of "freedom and democracy"!
They are trying to keep the momentum going now the movements have ran out of steam, with both money and support from foreign government running dry now the trade deal is done!
Further, their timing is impeccable, given what's happening in China! If I was a nurse in Hong Kong, I will be asking the government to let me go and help our compatriots in Wuhan just like all those service men and women are doing. (JFK, ask not what your country could do for you, ask instead of what you could do for your country). Instead of fighting a lost cause.
What get me is, that these nurses were seen recently with one hand over their eye! Come on, didn't they get the memo of the "blinded girl" witholding medical records! That should tell you something is amiss if they only have half a brain!
