The out come of all this that it forces Taiwanese companies to be ever more productive/efficiency and give Taiwanese employees better benefits. The workers have more choices, now and in the future. Keeping up with their's talents, they are always wanted. Good to see that they can happily working with the communist China, unlike their politicians.

Like I said before TSMC first gen 7nm is done without EUV. Looks like SMIC may follow TSMC footstep.
EUV is a must have for 5nm or below.
And no one knows whether 5nm can be successful.
China still have a chance even ASML EUV got banned

TSMC has not demonstrated full EUV mask set capability. It's second gen 7nm only use a few layers of EUV mask.

It's very possible TSMC get stopped at 5nm full EUV, much like Samsung experienced now at 7nm

It's possible that SMIC catch up to TSMC 7nm

Possible that SMIC catch up to TSMC 7nm using existing tools while TSMC got stalled at EUV 5nm.

That would be the ultimate LOL

Better if China develops its own EUV lithography tool.
Hell...at this point i'd take any lithography tool.

traditional optical lithography tool are like used cars, tons of them in second hand market.
But China should build them anyways so it got this area covered.
much like China current carrier program.
