He actually renounced Canadian citizenship and only holds HK passport. That makes him Chinese national by law. He’s also routinely painted by western media as “stooge” of Beijing. That makes him more Chinese in my opinion than most of those “pan-democrats”, even if he is foreign-origin.
The PLA hasn't left its barracks since the whole mess started, and now for the first time they do leave, it's too help clean up while wearing civilian/exercise clothes.
From this, we can see that Beijing is determined to project a benevolent image in HK. There will be no PAP intervention.
I believe HK Garrison standing orders are to never wear military uniform outside of barracks. Yes, it is to keep calm in volatile HK, but it is not related to the current disorder in any way.

Funny, just a few days ago, everyone was debating how regular people can go take back the city and finally they feel confident enough to do so. Scary that these rioters still say they are fighting for HK and throw Molotovs at regular people.
