which J-11B is quite deadly already

Which country/ies have better operational plane than J-11B in the region ?

No 1: US Navy (F/A-18E/F and F-35C)
No 2: USAF bases in Japan that can field F-22 and F-35 if necessary as well as older F-15 and F-16.
No 3: IAF. I know people here don't think much about it, but don't forget they have nearly 250 Su-30MKI. Those are very formidable aircraft either WVR or BVR. These are equipped with PESA radars, Israeli Jammers, TVC and more.

Others but in smaller numbers,

No 4: RoKAF (F-35, F-15K)
No 5: JSDAF (F-35)

ok, USAF should be excluded, my bad :-(

I don't think SU-30MKI and F-15K are better than J-11B .. only marginally perhaps, more likely roughly the same. F-35 shouldn't be counted as not fully operational yet

Great !

Otherwise it would be interesting to know - especially since these aircraft are most likely from the 1st Air Brigade at Anshan, which operates the oldest Batch 1 J-11B equipped with the original AL-31F - if they also got the latest WS-10B and what other improved avionics were added.

Lets not fool ourselves here, the J11B is on par with the F15C, but in terms of radar and avionics, both the MKI and F15K are, on paper at least, significantly more advanced. It’s only the new J16 that is at a similar if not higher level to those fighters.

As a pure air superiority platform?
I don't think so, to be blunt. It's an excellent swing-role aircraft, but for pure a2a applications, it's performance is a major hindrance.

This leaves F-22s, F-35s(next-gen), Su-35s(at worst neutral, at best - outright friendly), F-15Ks and Su-30MKIs as stronger or somewhat stronger aircraft;
Taiwanese F-16Vs, while substantially lighter, shall not be discounted as well.

In the end, original J-11B is a gold standard for 1990s air superiority fighter, but we don't live in the 1990s. Well, this is why it's being upgraded, after all.

But the latest batch 5 have a light grey ins.
Off grey is a lighter shade of grey but not white as in the J11BG, hope the current colour of the radome is an interim one, that is for testing. Don’t think the White goes with the current paint scheme of the J11B unless they end up re-painting the aircraft grey like the MKK

MKI and F-15k both have better radars than J-11b and are more modern so it's fair to assume their other components are probably quite a bit better than J-11b. J-11b should compare very favourably against F-15J though. Outside off F-22s and F-35s the region honestly doesn't have anything impressive at all. Even the F-2 and MKI are probably FAR worse than J-10C these days. MKI of course has range and payload advantage but PLAAF has several hundred more flanker type fighters all of which fire better weapons and are much better supported. The rest of the IAF fighter fleet cannot compare to the rest of the PLAAF fleet which include J-10s and J-20s since MKI will continue to be their best fighter until Rafale training, delivery, and support familiarity completes in several years.

Same here. There are a lot of J-11B out there and them getting AESA radars along with new EW systems (perhaps watered-down versions of J-16/J-11D EW systems) would make them quite deadly.
wait I think there're only 200+ J-11Bs... either that or I am very much mistaken
