Only just became consciously aware of the J-10's pylon geometry. Is it me or do these pylons separate the weapon from the wing quite a bit more than on other fighters?

It's the effect of a very wide-angle lens. The YJ-91 seems like it's pointing downward when it's really not.

No the YJ-91 is pointing down. Compare it with the two pylons adjacent. But my mistake on the offset distance. It appears similar on any Russia/NATO fighter as well. Just never noticed how most 4th gen fighter pylons look like a two part setup. YJ-91 reasons for pointing downwards is a mystery though but it's uninteresting to me.

It shouldn't be pointing downwards for it'll have a very adverse effect on aerodynamics during flight. If as you said there's no camera effect, then you have to say that the LT-2 and PL-8 (to a slighter extent due to its shorter length and therefore its depth of field) are mounted pointing downwards too.

It is absolutely pointing down, as shown by the rear and near-profile photos.
