Hong-Kong Protests

A part of me wants this thread deleted. I regret making it in the first place.

But a part of me wants this thread alive considering the slight possibility of PAP intervening if riots results in loss of police and civilian lives.

According to the rules, this whole political thread should be closed.

Frankly I'm surprised the mods allow this thread to be active.

Never read the rules so I never knew politics wasn't allowed here on this site.

The HK mess has brought out some of the worst of people in numerous circles and gaming communities that I'm a part of. I'm starting to understand why there is no mainland intervention; it really is the only way to show that the news and media were lying all along. All other roads lead to far worse outcomes. I couldn't even scroll through my Twitter/YouTube feeds yesterday without people posting pro-riot messages and images (mostly due to Blizzard and the player being banned). The vast majority have probably no idea what's going on over there, aside from something they read in the news. I get the sense of a lot of fear going around, perceived injustice, and too many happily jumping on the bandwagon.

It's only political because the NED made it so. Doesn't change the fact you haven't provided any commentary to articles.

It's only rioting and hybrid warfare because the NED made it so, otherwise it indeed would have just been peaceful politics which this forum has no interest in.

DO NOT delete this thread. I think some "demography" wants this thread removed. Do not play into the trap.
No personal attacks.
No country bashing.
Resist from derailing the thread into non-riot related topics (I think I've done that twice. It was measured btw and a repeat isn't in line).
The thread ought to be about " HK Protests ". This shall not be just an "anti-rioter" / "Pro-Beijing" thread. Feel free to post anti-Establishment posts too. But since the anti-establishment narrative is peddled in full force in various MSMs, the thread shall see "Anti-rioter" pieces. There are no other known places where "anti-rioter" tidbits/leaks/news are easily discussed.

I think anti-rioter posters need to step up in English in venues such as Twitter and Facebook so people who don't know about the rioters' dirty deeds have information sources in English other than the vast majority of pro-rioter biased English language media.

People did that already, their accounts got closed.

Keep at it, open another account, use other platforms or websites. Plenty of blogs, forums, etc.

In fact, many links posted by Gatekeeper and others are to Facebook and Youtube, it's just that the posts aren't in English.

Not sure if this was posted before. Here are the sequence of events that lead to the old man taxi driver being beaten to near death. The door on his cab was preyed open by the rioters and he was totally surrounded and clearly being attacked by multiple rioters before the cab was forced to swerved to the sidewalk. It was undeserved brutality for an accident the rioters themselves caused but you have yet to see any serious coverage of this story from a western media outlet.

I was just reading articles on Blizzard's suspension of that Hearthstone player, and the ignorance displayed by the writers and the commenters are comical. At least in the news comments some people know about the violence. In there, nobody seems to have an inkling what is actually happening in Hong Kong, they just think they are standing up for human rights and freedom of speech.

Against this tide of ignorance, I simply don't see what good a few posts can do. Frankly, reading the internet these days is depressing.

I don't think it shall make any difference. Who are you trying to convince ? Who are you trying to preach to?
Confirmation bias is a huge thing. People always operate on some set biases, prejudice and understanding and they shall resist mighty to see that they were right all along. Even if Truth makes itself clear, they shall miss it.
Those who are in search of truth OR are really open to see the finer details of an issue will always find it. But such people are rare. Most are simple folks- just like many HKers or many other Humans around this planet. They don't care.
That being said ... Change in popular opinion can indeed be inflicted. Such a change needs either time or impactful events or both.

The Only people who needs to know fully about the precarious situation are the common folks of the mainland. Theirs is the only opinion that matter. The disparity in the reporting, the biases in the media outside of the GFW are all on full display. And burning the national flags and attacking mainlanders ... Oh my oh my... Talk about overkill.
