Hong-Kong Protests

There is a video I was watching showing students turning on their school teachers now. They are shouting obscenities, shining lasers and threatening their teachers (by asking him whether his house needed any free "renovation"). A total lack of respect for authority.

Apparently, some educators are now reaping the seeds that they sow.

That college professor is pro-China so those students surrounded him to force him to apologize. When that professor refused and called for police, the college administrators put him in a room with those students to sort out their difference and blocked the police from entering the college campus. This kind of nonsense can only happen in HK.

Due to the inaction of many schools and encouragement from some teachers, many students have become deeply involved in the rioters. The police had just reported that 55% of the recently arrested are students. Also 10% of them are under 15 years old and 40% of them are under 18 years. Basically, middle students have become the backbone of the recent riots.

Yao Liansheng Middle School of the Liwan Bureau of Liwan was smashed and vandalized by the "black Shirt". During the class yesterday, it was discovered that the calibration door was swayed and magnified. There were also broken glass doors in the school. The fragments were scattered. The external walls of Shifang Building in Shiweijiao Village were also written with the words "Guangfu Yao Liansheng".

After the school staff cleaned up, they encountered demonstrations at about 4 pm yesterday. About 80 people responded to the online launch of the "pick up students after school" campaign. Some of them were wearing school uniforms, masked students and "black shirt people". After entering the school, the principal is required to explain the handling of physical conflicts between studnets different political views. During this period, some people throw trash cans and eggs into the school's outer wall. Some people also removed the nearby pedestrian rail fence to block the school gate and graffiti.

The personal photos of that student were posted by different students in the school's male toilet. The middle school fifth grade student have physical altercations with third grade students.

Unbelievable! Hong Kong is burning and the authorities are still dithering over investments and credit ratings!

If anyone still needed more proof of the dysfunctional incompetence of the HK government, this is it.

There is supposed to be council elections next month.Lets see if there is any backlash against
Sitting members.

Of all the things I've seen and heard in the history of China since 1949, this is the first time I have truly felt that the CCP is cruel. They let a patriot be beaten to death in his own country by traitors and they did not act because they held on to their strategy. I suppose that's a trait needed in a worthy commander but it is not in me. I would have ordered the full military force of the nation down on the cowards responsible and made a medieval public display of their fate to show all of China and the world the end that awaits Chinese traitors, especially those who dare attack men far better than themselves, men brave and honorable enough to be patriots. If I were the captain of a nearby PLA garrison, I would have rejected my orders and marched on them doing as much as I can to them until another PLA garrison arrived to stop me. Whatever consequences there would be would be an afterthought to the justice that must be delivered.

Well isn't that what the "protestors" and the U.S. are hoping for? They want an over reaction from the CCP to send in the military to put down the HK protests because it gives the U.S. and its backers a valid reason on the world stage to slap sanctions on China and gain leverage in the trade war. They want a repeat of Russia and the Ukraine situation.

From China's POV, I think the CCP is doing the right thing politically by avoiding any form of direct intervention but at the same time condemning external entities and parties who support the rioters. CCP's lack of intervention and response is the main reason the rioters are becoming more and more violent - they are losing patience.

I still think that China's best course of action is to wait it out, but engage rioters and external parties behind-the-scenes. Eventually the HK population will start to turn against those protesting because extended periods of disruption is unsustainable.

PS having real trouble posting images, can someone who knows how to do it repost these so they can actually be seen right here on the forum?

Two ways:

Take the direct image link of a picture once it's been uploaded to a image host (like imgur), then type in the following:
IcFEEUR.png

With the direct image link in between.
(You can also click the "image" button at the top of the reply box, which will do the job as well if you paste the direct image link).

Alternatively, you can download a picture to your computer, then click the "upload a file" button to select and upload your image. Afterwards, the file will appear below the reply box. Then click the "full image" button to insert the image into the reply in full.

I doubt the council elections would be held. Carrie Lam has hinted that she is considering to cancel the election if the violence persists. To be honest, I believe the rioters still have popular support. Many people still excuse any wrongdoings by the rioters.

Yes, you are right, but as I had already noted in my post, I do not possess the patience, reptilian coldness, or tact to be a worthy strategic commander for Beijing. I am a hot-blooded man who ascribes to a more primal philosophy:

“The greatest happiness is to vanquish your enemies, to chase them before you, to rob them of their wealth, to see those dear to them bathed in tears, to clasp to your bosom their wives and daughters.” - Genghis Khan

That's why you are not a political leader and decision maker. By the way, even though Genghis Khan did say that, people like us tend to overlook the sorrows and sufferings the people of the steppes endured for the majority of their life back in Genghis Khan's era. We only see their glory, their triumph, the booty of their conquest, and we envy them. But we don't see that for most of history, the people of the steppes has much much tougher and less happy lives than the civilized agrarian centers. We would have perished, either from physically hardship or mental grief/sorrow, if we have to live like them. So, let the steppe people have their fugacious moments of plunder and fun.

BTW, I am NOT lumping the HK rioter together with nomads from the steppes. Those HK brats aren't even worthy to be put in the same sentence with those nomads.

Most of the active rioters right now are students, unemployed, and temporary workers. So I am not surprised that they are desperate for money. All those gears are pretty expensive to obtain especially if you are out of jobs. Just don' understand why people would just allow them to search and extort.

The mobs set up roadblocks to attempt robbery, and the drivers in the city were heart-wrenching. Many car owners have recently accused the mobs of intercepting and collecting "transit money". Some cars window have been smashed, and the people with different political views have been taken out of the car beaten. Yesterday, the WhatsApp group circulated that a citizen who served as the honorary president of the JPC was robbed by the mob when he drove through Lung Cheung Road. The mobs took away $7,000 dollar in the wallet and claimed it is donation to the rioters.

The Chief of the New Territories North Region, Mr Kwong Yam-yong, said at a police press conference yesterday that in Tuen Mun, Yuen Long, Tsuen Wan, Tseung Kwan O and Eastern District, there were reports of mobs forcibly checking the drivers and passengers' personal belongings and mobile phones, indicating that the interception was necessary to find out off-duty police officers or citizens who hold opposing opinions. On the 6th, after the driver was beaten out of the car by a mob and found to have lost property, the police have stepped up patrols and arrested 19 people in various districts for alleged "illegal assembly" and "blocking police officers from performing duties".

Li Yaopei, president of the Automobile Association, was interviewed by Ta Kung Pao. He heard that the road conditions were very bad, the roads were blocked, and the traffic lights at the crossroads were destroyed. The accident of collision of vehicles has soared recently. He urged the driver to try to avoid the blocked road and pay attention to safety.
