, you see how often are these bills get far enough to be put into laws. From this year alone it's less than 1%. Not a surprise that most of the time politicians do what politicians do, mere virtue signal without getting it done. They are probably busy with the new president's impeachment anyway, so this HK bill would most likely face the same fate like all those 7500 dead bills introduced in this year alone.
There is a high chance for the bill to be passed ( very high bipartisan support tbh) BUT as US might have realized after decades of diplomacy with China - China will not bite back quick. It will bite rather in the distant future. Iran, Venezuela, UN, North Korea, Russian alliance etc ... there is a lot China can do to scuttle the US "dream" for the world. China can help Iran accelerate its Nuke program like it was on rocket fuel. China can supply North Korea ("accidentally") with huge lumber trucks that can be repurposed as TEL again. China can give the Levant region a boost by helping its development. China can scuttle any/all UN moves by US using the veto.China can decide of monetary and trade policies that leave out US interests. China can step up its Russia bonhomie. Help out Venezuela. Fund anti-US parties in many developing countries etc.

What you'd get will be a China that is out there for blood. The US would have to decide if it is worth it. Whether their estimation of China was over or under.
Contrary to popular belief, China and US has had great deal of cooperation in many fields. They might have even looked like friends when it came to certain non strategic / non ideological subjects. This bill will erode that trust and convert the frenemy into enemy.

Don't act like children. Nothing concrete ever indicated that these people "represents Hong Kong", they have no real power what-so-ever. What is power? Organizing a "maidan"-like riot is easy feat in a society like Hong Kong, Ukraine, US, etc. However, riot organizer is only powerful if the established government decides to caving in to their demands, and hand-over power. You guys don't even know what power is. You guys has no idea how powerful a modern government machine is. I can only tell you, that such a government machine can only be defeated from within. In other words, it can only be defeated if it decides to stop exercising their power and hand-over authority to the rioters.

These people are a joke, let them be a clown while they are still in deceit. You guys are juvenile, easily provoked and inexperienced. You need to have the mentality of real statesmen. You guys get upset by the most trivial matter. Had Mao Zedong and the other early leader be as emotional fragile and unstable as you guys are, they would have been annihilated by fear alone.

You sound very emotional yourself. Perhaps you should take a break from this thread for a while?

None of us here are statesmen. We are just ordinary patriotic Chinese. Your "rational strategic planning" is about as useful as our "emotionally unstable response", which means it has no value whatsoever, since neither you nor any of us are part of the decision making process. We are only here to share our thoughts and feelings, and to keep up to date on developments in HK.

If this is all so upsetting to you, then the rational thing to do would be to stop reading this thread.

I am sick and tired of fools like that guy who swing cheap shots like "you are not smart enough to see through......" when he doesn't even know what the hell I am talking about. It's not just the fact that that person throws cheap shots, but he/she throw that cheap shot and totally misses. And I am not even his opponent. This is some other level of stupid, that isn't even funny. In fact, it is infuriatingly upsetting to know some f****r who is supposed to be on my team is this incompetent and emotionally unstable.

I apologize for taking a cheap shot at you. It was intended to be facetious, not as a genuine insult. I was trying to caution that it is unwise to underestimate opponents in response to your post about how "the rioters are not smart enough" to do such and such to damage Hong Kong and China.

As others already said, those of us who are anti-rioter agree on the fundamental fact that the riots are not beneficial to, nor are they intended to benefit, Hong Kong or China. We are just regular people who care about the well-being of Hong Kong and China sharing our thoughts and opinions, I hope that caring can be the common anchor for us to agree to disagree over the littler things.

Hong Kong police on Friday warned that indulging in criminal activities will invite charges that might ruin one’s reputation for life. The fresh warnings were issued after the number of students detained for violating the law amounted to 207 in September.

Between June and August, 257 students were arrested for breaching the city’s law.

“There is an obvious surge in the percentage of detained students who violated the law,” said Kong Wing-cheung, Senior Superintendent of Police Public Relations Branch, as among the total 1, 596 detainees, 38 percent are students.

"Participating in illegal activities is not a cosplay,” the police officer said at a press conference.

ers also took to social media to glorify their violence and even criminal activity, as they hailed those involved in arson and other criminal attacks on police as the “magicians.”

“Having a criminal record will affect the rest of your whole life,” Kong warned. “Young people should really think twice before committing a crime in an impulse.”

Crimes committed by young students include riots, arson attacks, and possession of offensive weapons among others, said the officer.

Radical protesters also fuse chemical elements with petrol bombs to flame the fire. Police warned using corrosive elements to harm others also amounts to serious criminal charges.

After Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor concluded her first community dialogue at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Wanchai on Thursday night, swarms of protesters blocked the exit of the stadium to stall Lam’s departure. She was reportedly leaving the venue around 1:30 am on Friday, nearly four hours after the dialogue ended.

Protesters were issued a no-objection letter by the police for a 1,000-strong demonstration on Saturday at Tamar Park, next to the Hong Kong Central Government building. However, it is estimated the number of protesters could exceed the permitted 1,000.

This put a hole in the MSM's narratives that ALL students are against China.

The university of science and technology students out to show their support for China by waving flags abd singing the national anthem.

This is why China can't abandon Hong Kong. Because the are more patriots than rioters in Hong Kong. They are just less vocal.....,.. and violent! FB_IMG_1569673932595.jpg FB_IMG_1569673941625.jpg FB_IMG_1569673922673.jpg FB_IMG_1569673911471.jpg FB_IMG_1569673911471.jpg FB_IMG_1569673899023.jpg

Water cannon fired

Police have used a water cannon on protesters on Harcourt Road. The water contains blue dye, intended to make it easier to identify protesters later.

Reporters on the scene say the water also appears to contain pepper spray.
