7 :0. In terms of throughput, are the engines the main bottleneck to modern jet aircraft production?

Even if WS15s come out, it would have to mature very quickly before we see many j20’s right?

Is there any possibility that WS-15 may be used in future Flanker derivatives as well? Would it be worthwhile in terms of the costs and benefits?

No. The Flanker is a dead-end evolutionary line in the age of 5th gens. Anything other than MLU options for existing birds is a waste of resources, as no matter how much you dress up a Flanker, it still isn’t going to stand up against any true 5th gen in any normal scenario.

WS15 testing can be done on testbeds.

Once they have enough data points, they should be able to model its impact on the J20 airframe extremely accurately with supercomputers.

It depends on how micro-missiles evolve. If missile interception by active chaff and dogfight missiles becomes really good, a J-11 or Su-35 variant built along similar lines as the F-15EX could be potent.

There's also another possible design line based on lasers; if lasers are not turretable, we're back to dogfight land where agility is paramount (ability to target the laser beam, although the laser will likely be on maneuvering drones due to human 9G limitations).

Doesn't laser has an extremely limited range? How would laser change tactics back to dogfighting when it cannot match the range of contemporary missiles?

About 10 Km. With laser attached to multiple fiber optic muzzles in which the laser beam can be directed to the muzzle facing the target, basically the laser can be shot to any direction as long as you have a radar lock on the target.
If you have skin radar like the one Japan is doing research on then the plane does not have to point her nose towards the target so the radar can lock on.
You can't do that with missiles or guns.

Well, in the future, lasers can potentially also be used as active defense against missiles, hence forcing the adversary to launch an overwhelming number of missiles in a saturation attack, or close in to use their own lasers. While it is unlikely for lasers to replace missiles, it may complement them.
