Infantry Combat Equipment (non-firearm): Vests, Body Armor, NVGs, etc.

What they really need PR wise is less of this crazy jump cuts and more of RT Raw style simple unedited, uncommentated footage.

You get about 2-3 minutes to impress the modern-day youth with their already short attention span. These kids are so used to video game style of excitement and fast pace. If you give them RT style stuff, most of them will turn to another clip before one of the officers is able to completely pull his pistol out of the holster...

This is also why sports clips are jump cut style too. The compilation of exciting moves and combined with exciting music is what excites people.

It is incredible that China would have things like stealth fighters, aircraft carriers, hypersonic weapons and ASAT weapons. But things like bulletproof vests, kneepads, gloves, personal radio's and protective glasses are not standard equipment for the infantry. This is not a issue of the lack of technology or money but priority. I don't understand the thinking behind this. If things don't change it will cost China dearly if a war were to break out.

Afaik all of it except level IV armor IS standard issue. At least radios they’ve had 1 for every person basically since Vietnam. Higher rated armor is reserved for soldiers in dangerous areas like Xinjiang or in overseas deployment.

The thinking behind it is that there won’t be a war that requires all the reserves to be mobilized, at least not without adequate warning, which would let China kick up war production.

To have 300k soldiers with the best equipment money can buy is better than having 1.5 million soldiers with world class, but otherwise unremarkable equipment, as long as you never intend to fight a war that requires more than 300k soldiers.

The cost saved in buying exotic equipment such as elite body armor, kamikaze drones etc. for reserves is better spent on R&D so the active soldiers who will actually use their weapons can keep getting new developments.

Wire guide (?) on the helmet, also note the small accessory rail on the side of the helmet. There's a detachable folio (for maps?) on his chest. The collar looks interesting too. Rank insignia is probably buried somewhere in there, or that rectangular spot on the tactical vest (chest area) could be some kind of velcro attachment for an insignia. I personally like PAP's way of attaching insignias to upper arms.

That is definitely the same uniform that we've seen the PLA trialing in the past, including the vest and helmet (pics 2 and 4 most visibly)
https://www.sinodefenceforum.com/in...body-armor-nvgs-etc.t8198/page-55#post-564431

I'm sure some users here will be happy to observe the low vis patch on the shoulder.

The fold down screen thing on his chest (that we've seen in the pictures on by78's post that I linked) is a sort of smart device. (I assume that's the object you're referring to when you mean "detachable folio"?)
Other military forces have pursued this as well, like the US Nett Warrior system, with a tablet or phone as the "end user device".

So, are these uniform sets (particular the top one) a different colour to the desert scheme we've seen above?

They're obviously the same uniform design and same camo pattern, but they appear to be a different colour, yes? (somewhat woodland green vs the desert/arid colour of the pics prior)

Because a part of me wants to say they are a different colour, but another part of me feels like it might just be the lighting or camera settings and that the colour is actually the same desert colour from before...

This pattern was not inducted in the end. The one at the parade rehearsal is similar to the one we have seen before with the white dots, but a different color.

You mean the one in post #555 above from the parade rehearsal?

I'm also not sure which uniform with white dots you are talking about.

edit: I see the uniform with the white dots in your picture, but do we have any pictures of the entire uniform (such as being worn, or the set etc?).
I also don't know which parade rehearsal picture you're talking about which suggests that they've chosen a different pattern to the ones that by78 had posted above.

Are you saying that the uniform is the same as the one in the posts above (#556, #541 etc), but merely with a different pattern?
