Chinese Engine Development

Lol they found a pair of undies?! As in actual underwear and not just a piece of fabric. That is not poor quality or accidental. I wonder if those workers know the engines they are working on are for Chinese fighters.
Could be a prank (or the action of a drunkard), but if it were true, it shows how unprofessional the Russian engine industry has become.

Convenient timing for the release of this info. It means the Chinese are now more independent of russian engines than ever and can afford to bite the only hand that fed them ;)

Oh, the 8th Route Army got some level of American support during WW2, albeit highly limited. And the Americans were working on joint projects before Tiananmen, such as upgrades to the Type 59 (T-54) and J-8s (iirc).

I still highly favor the Chinese import of the Su-57 as a cheap, dedicated dogfighter / strike craft that can take attrition while the J-20 does hit and runs.

Given the limited production run, and that it is a heavyweight "stealth" fighter, the Su-57 is unlikely to be to be cheap.
Remember that the PAK-FA was estimated at $100M flyaway cost, without R&D expenses.

But let's say the Su-57 is only half the price of a J-20, what then?

I reckon you're still better off with more J-20s - because having numerical superiority means you can keep sniping away at opposing stealth fighters, whilst your opponent has run out of BVR missiles.

And there's also the existing (and even cheaper) fleet of J-10 and J-11s for last ditch attritional dogfighting.

Plus the future J-31 stealth fighter which is smaller than the J-20, and which should be cheaper as well.

Then you are most likely still better off keeping your capex within the local defence ecosystem, to fund future system upgrades and new clean sheet designs.

... awfully convenient. Combined with the fact that it rather stretches credulity, I'd take those claims with large amounts (or a mound - see what I did there?) of salt unless the source has a bullet-proof track record.

Of course. Plus with local production, all that money is recycled domestically and also generates more domestic tax revenue.

The WS-10 has been in development for over 15 years now.

Given all the time, money and effort invested - hearing from multiple sources that the WS-10 has finally gone into mass production for all new fighter builds sounds reasonable and well overdue.

That's what I thought. Actually, the WS-10 has been in operation on the J-11B for over a decade or so.
