thanks for the in depth explanation. if the soil is indeed that porous dredging is definitely the way to go. and the fact we are seeing the area bring dredged means the area is likely too porous.
anyway, I guess then we don't know what the scope of dredging and work will be, later on.
though, if they wanted to build a dry dock, I still guess they could have dug that up earlier and sealed it off from the ocean water pouring in through the soil.
I suspect it all means that this area will only have shallow draft boats on it. And if all you're going to do is bring in and load barges with carrier modules, that's all you need. Those type of vessels don't need the type of basin you would normally associate with larger ships.

what they wants to do in the area empty next to the current assembly ? It is a prime assembly area, with easy access to all facility , and with direct access to the basin.
Second, why the current supermodule building area is not next to the shore, shown as bellow ?
That should make the required size of the basin smaller, and the movement of barges would not disturb any other activity in .
I don't think that anyone can answer it, it is more of a highlighting of interesting aspect of the design.

They will probably build another supermodule building area right next to the current assembly area. That way they can more or less crank out 2 ships at the same time.
After building two 002, Shanghai will probably build 003 in parallel to Dalian. Both Shanghai and Dalian will probably crank out two 003 in a staggered time frame.

If the want to make two carrier at the same time, then they need two drydock.
The No#4 commercial dock maybe be long enough to accommodate two carrier at the same time, but using one long drydock for two ships makes impossible to lift super modules to the internal ship, or launch it. without finishing the external one.
The other possibility should be to use two commercial drydock, but that would cut to half the capacity of the shipyard.
The other option should be to create in the current basin drydock, open into the basin.

It lasts ten years to build a carrier. And from this ten years, the carrier spents two years in drydock. The two years before the modules are createtd and the two years thereafter a carrier is fittet out. Two years at the beginning components for the modules are fabricated and two years after fitting out the carrier will be finalized.
With only one drydock it is possible to build five carriers at the same time.
