in my opinion Trump administration is all but populated by some sort of evil geniuses that are surgically targeting china. In my opinion us policy toward china and other issues will backfire badly with a recession (trump recession) before the next presidential elections. Look at the mess that much more intelligent mp have done in iraq and global financial crisis during the bush administration. Please Read "fire and fury" to understand what kind of idiots are these people.

Birds of a feather flock together. It started with a leader of a feather getting voted into office, It's a no brainer what feather of people gets pulled into the admin and whatnot gets kicked out. The end result is destined to be exactly the kind of administration you have described above.

China 's Commerce Ministry just reiterated China's stand on the trade war during a routine news conference.

"China will not make concessions on matters of principle and resolutely opposes the U.S. unilateralism and bullyism practices," Chinese Ministry of Commerce spokesperson Gao Feng told reporters at a regular briefing on Thursday.

"If the U.S. side insists on its own way and continues to upgrade trade frictions with China, we will accompany them to the end," noted Gao.

Gao expressed that China's position in the trade war is consistent and clear, saying China does not want to fight a trade war, but is not afraid of fighting a trade war.

Deng Xiaoping dictum of biding the time and hiding one strength has validity when China was weak and her economy is barely in survival mode. The aim is to concentrate on economic development and forget the rest of the world

But china's economy is getting so big now and there is no place to hide anymore
China need to form their own neighborhood or else she will forever depending on access to the US and western market So China BRI initiative and technology self sufficiently initiative is timely. I would even say it is none to soon
Imagine if China didn' start the 2025MIC back in 2015 where would china be now ?

China didn't start this trade war nor China want it to happened but it was forced on her so She has no choice but to respond vigorously
Private enterprises play very important role in Chinese economy generating the lion share of employment and profit
But due to late start of Chinese technology development due to the legacy of CR and misguided policy in the 60's
private sector alone wont take the risk of investing billion of dollar in building FAB or other infrastructure that are the necessities of modern economy

So SOE has a very important place in Chinese economy sparheading the expensive and difficult undertaking that private company alone won't be making the investment

The structure of Chinese politic won't allow for complete independent of judiciary Imagine the governement loose cased in the court even for the commercial dispute where it is going to end? Next they will demand freedom and free speech Who knows maybe even democrazy

Maybe someday when the majority of Chinese population has enough politic wisdom the system can change along one party Singapore model of democracy.

Sooner or latter the US will try to slow down or even stop the Chinese economic development in its track, China has 20 years of grace period while the US is distracted from middle east madness So she has all the time to prepare for this containment effort. And she did by growing her economy tremendously.

I personally believe it is too late to retard or roll back china progress. What China need to do is to harness the power of Chinese industriousness, creativity and tenacity and to rally them behind the nation

Commentary: Time for some U.S. politicians to see China's growth with rationality

Recent months have seen a handful of hawks in Washington trying every means to discredit China and stoke confrontation between the world's two largest economies.

For them, China's rapid growth in the past four decades is hard to take given their deep-rooted conception that the United States will always maintain its global supremacy in all fronts.

Viewing China's growth as a threat to the U.S. global dominance, they have hurled out various remarks largely detached from reality regarding Beijing's domestic policy and global role. Yet for many in and outside the United States, such full-court press on China is neither righteous nor achievable.

Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said it is neither possible nor wise for countries to prevent China from growing and strengthening, and former U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense Chas Freeman also urged Washington to "yield gracefully" to China's inclusion in regional and global governance, rather than attempting to shut China out.

The United States must accept that good capabilities to do research and make development "can also be found in the East," said Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad.

China's transformation over recent decades is born of the hard work of its people. And its ever-deepening reform and opening up and its increasingly active participation in global affairs also contributed to global peace and prosperity.

As global politics evolves, isolationism has become a thing of the past and multilateralism is the widely-embraced trend.

Failing to grasp that global progress now largely hinges on cooperation between all players, some U.S. hawks even attempted to solicit partners against China, but their plans would never work.

The international community is increasingly rattled by Washington's frequently-used bullying tactics, its recurring withdrawal from international organizations and treaties, and its repeated lies and instigations for the sake of selfish interests.

By comparison, the world has mostly welcomed China's growth as it is seeking common prosperity with others, by adhering to the opening-up policy, actively integrating into the global economy, and promoting regional and global cooperation via platforms such as the Belt and Road Initiative.

Those tough-talking U.S. politicians really need to heed the global call for cooperation over confrontation, and discard the zero-sum mentality in relations with other countries.

Forcing "America First" will only lead to America alone.

I've just been thinking about Ark OS, which may be renamed to Oak OS.

Outside of China, I think Huawei should stick with Ark OS from a marketing perspective, because Oak OS is a bland name with no particular meaning.

But Ark OS evokes imagery of Noah's Ark, which is really powerful for the following reasons:

1. Noah's Ark is one of the key stories in the Book of Genesis.
2. The Book of Genesis is the foundation for the religions of Judaism and Christianity.
3. So almost everyone hears the story of Noah's Ark from their parents/teachers as a small child.
4. And what child isn't amazed at the story of surviving disaster and Armageddon, and then creating a new world.

That parallels what is happening with Huawei today.

So the emotional imagery works both in the USA (where people are really religious) and in Europe (Which is is not that religious, but which bridles against many things American).
It also works with other countries with a Judeo-Christian background.
Edit. Come to think of it, it's also in the Koran, so add Islam to this analysis as well. Then you end up with 4.2Billion people out of 6.3Billion in the non-Chinese world.

And on an intellectual level, a successful Ark OS will always serve as a reminder and also a warning to policymakers around the world.

I really hope they stick with Ark.

I suggest as well that they internationalize/Europeanize it a bit by adding in security software from Europe.

That sounds like a plan.

But in the medium term, Huawei have to guarantee availability and support for Ark OS, if they want it to be adopted widely in China and abroad.
That probably means making Ark OS open source and having a wider contributor base.

So in 5 years time, the global smartphone user base may consist of Apple IOS, Google Android and Ark OS.

We recently saw Google fined $1.5B for anti-competitive practices by the European Union.
So the EU should welcome the entry of a new competitor, as it will help curb Google's predatory actions.

EU antitrust ruling against Google force it offer alternate Search Engines and browsers options to mobile phone users. I would recommend Huawei with help of Chinese government and its lobbies should campaign to have alternate of Google Play store options as well. At least they can try this antitrust campaign to separate android from app store and other services in friendly countries like Malaysia and other BRI countries.

is incredibly clever, Huawei can't use Google Play, so let "with help of Chinese government and its lobbies" make some countries install something else than Google Play, LOL

I've now read this thread from the fabulous quote

down to here, and in the process I realized the problem of China would be the need to sell, sell, and sell more of cell phones etc. to Europe and everywhere else

Please elaborate what is your view to the conclusion that Iran war would be a catastrophic? (I agree with you, I just want to know your views)

The US just simply send hundreds of cruise missiles randomly on Tehran buildings and after that Trump would declare a huge war victory. Land invasion is another matter, no way the US force would be able to control Iran .... heck even for a country like Afghanistan ... the US land force is practically useless

Even you bombarded Tehran with trillions cruise missiles, it won't accomplish anything militarily. You have nothing to brag about, except for your vandalism.

On the other hand, the downside of US air-attacks to Tehran is unlimited. There are plenty of US military assets within Iran's missile range in the region. Worse ever, Iran could coordinate local anti-American militants with its missile attacks to maximize their gains. Iran could, for instance, cut a deal with Afghan Taliban, where Iran would fire missiles to facilitate Taliban's land attacks to locally based American troops. A well coordinated Iran-Taliban attack could result in hundreds, even thousands Americans, dead and alive, servicemen and civilian, captured by Taliban. These American POWs and US corpses then could be transferred from Afghan to Tehran, becoming Tehran's war trophy and bargaining chips. What kind damage and challenge could this be to Washington? Unimaginable and unmanageable!

There could be much more complicated, much more damaging war scenarios plotted by Iranians to counter-attack US air-attacks. Trump would be dragged deeper and deeper into a wrong war at a wrong time in a wrong place with a wrong enemies for his wrong ego. The US would have to choose between a complete catastrophe or an ego-bruising humiliation to exit a war it couldn't win.

Could Iranian missiles be so powerful? Well, you'd better prepare yourself to see more and more, better and better Chinese and Russian weapons show up there after each escalation of US air-attack to Iran, otherwise, you are an unqualified military planner.

Just remember Saddam Hussein's Iraq was an international orphan, thus the US could beat it like a SWAT team storms an unarmed civilian house. But Iran isn't. Iran has big brothers' assistance near by. Also remember that USSR's defeat in Afghan was a result of co-operation among US, China, Pakistan and Afghani resistance groups, and that the US's defeats in Vietnam and in Korea were basically the same in principle. Outside big brother's help does make life and death difference in the outcomes of a war.
