071 LPD thread

8 LPD can carry 32 x LCAC

To have 32 active LCAC you need double the number

PLAN has so far ~16 units

10 are sitting in JNCX

The other 6 have occasional use

None so far have been seen doing over the horizon amphibious assault

The launch of the 8th is over shadowed by this fact

China could build more of these ships, it is a great design, but it is kind of overkill for something like an invasion of Taiwan.
In that case something like the Type 072A LST would be a lot more cost effective.
These ships are mostly for long distance overseas expeditionary missions.

Yes and I agree

whats the latest rumour with LHD/LHA 2+2?

2 x Type 075 at 30,000 tons each for 30 helicopters

2 x Type 075A at 40,000+ tons each for 40 helicopters

so basically a amphibious group for each fleet looks like

4 x Type 071 LPD + 1 x Type 075 LHD + 1 x Type 075A LHA

enough to lift a Marine brigade of 6,000 men and their equipment

they should form one for NSF too that would give NSF amphibious assets and experience, form a marine brigade for them

the requirement should then be

12 x LPD, 3 x LHD and 3 x LHA

A very powerful and modern fleet

The problem is the western side of the island is heavily defended. The eastern part of the island is not so much
But most of the urban center is on the western side of the island

Taiwan just bought 108 M1A2 Abrams tanks, 1,240 TOW anti-armour missiles, 409 Javelin anti-tank missiles and 250 Stinger man-portable air defence systems. That is a VERY significant boost to their land forces.

China has to exercise its sovereignty over Taiwan right now, by denying the transport of such equipment into Chinese territory.

The US might replay a similar rulebook to what they did in Georgia and Ukraine. i.e. they supply Taiwan with weapons for insurgency warfare and then Taiwan declares independence, or does some other movement to provoke China into a conflict.

Georgia and Ukraine are countries, while the US itself recognizes Taiwan as part of China.

They were both part of the Russian Empire at one point.

Then there is Kosovo. If you have not realized by now that the US does not play by everyone else's rules by now you haven't been looking at things closely.

Still, we are getting way offtopic.
