why did they reinstate Huawei ?

Perhaps of the Temporary License? But if that's the case they shouldn't have removed Huawei in the first place -- unless they didn't know there's a temporary license.

Perhaps it was unnecessary to remove in the first place? That it's an overreaction?

Perhaps it was all part of a propaganda war, to create the feeling that Huawei is being isolated? Now that that's over and no media's reporting it with a follow-on, they just quietly added Huawei back?

Who knows? and it doesn't matter to be honest. If Huawei can't get around the Google and ARM ban none of these will make a difference. If Huawei can get around those bigger issues these smaller ones will just go away as well, as if they never existed in the first place.

Tokyo (AFP) - Malaysia will continue using Huawei products "as much as possible," bucking a global trend prompted by security concerns and a US ban on the Chinese firm, the country's prime minister said Thursday.

Mahathir said the United States and "the West" must accept that Asian nations now produce competitive products, and should not "threaten" business rivals.

"Yes, I understand Huawei has tremendous advance(s) over American technology even," he said.

The U.S. cannot expect to always be at the top in technology, and countries need to talk to deal with a powerful China, Mahathir said at a conference in Tokyo. He also appeared to side with Chinese telecom giant Huawei, which the U.S. has put on a blacklist.

"We try to make use of their technology as much as possible," Mahathir told the Future of Asia conference, noting that Huawei has achieved a "tremendous advance over American technology."

"We have to accept that the U.S. cannot forever be the supreme nation in the world that can have the best technology in the world," he said.

Reports from Malaysia. Some restaurants and cafes has been offering discounts to Huawei users in Malaysia.

Granted, they could just be marketing their businesses, but this is reflecting the mood among the locals.

Really??? I didn't know Malaysians were so pro-China! Are they actually that pro-China or is it just that the US has become so ugly people can't stand it anymore? Maybe I should take a vacation to Malaysia...

I'd believe that among the local Chinese populace at least, are practically fully behind China in this trade war with the US. Among the larger population, should still be majority against US actions.

Note the shameless propaganda party line inserted. There are a grand total of 3 countries who have banned Huawei, that counts as a ‘global trend’?

The fact that the US cannot even get all of is extra special 5 eyes countries onboard with a ban despite massive pressure speaks volumes about just how much of this ‘concern’ is based on actual evidence.

The whole point of 5 eyes is that they share extremely sensitive intelligence, so the Trump apologist argument that the evidence is too sensitive to share publicly doesn’t apply. 5 eyes countries should have full access to whatever sensitive intel the US might have on Huawei, but having seen that, some are still resisting US pressure to ban the company fully debunks the security concern argument.

The US targeting Huawei is just the US trying to contain China and apply pressure to try and get concessions from the trade talks in true mafia shakedown mode.

Mahathir isn't by far pro-China, or anything close. But he has built up a reputation by standing up against the West on so many issues.
I didn't mean Mahathir; that's just 1 person. I meant the restaurant reaction. That indicates that it's a popular and fervent sentiment to be pro-Huawei and anti-USA in order for restaurants to use it to gain customer support. If such a trend of supporting Huawei against the US is controversial in Malaysia, businesses would not want to endorse it since they'd be losing customers as much as gaining customers while also dishing out on a discount. If the sentiment were meek, restaurants wouldn't use it since it would not elicit a reaction strong enough to gain business but you would be losing money on the discounts offered to people who were gonna eat at your restaurant anyway. Trends like this really only happen when a large majority of people are in strong support of a sentiment so the businesses are confident that by public endorsement of it, they will gain so many new customers that it will easily more than offset the losses they sustain by discounting prices. And 20% cuts substantially into restaurant profit.

It's both shocking and heart-warming for me to learn that Malaysian public harbors such strong wide-spread support for China.

To Americans, ''Global'' has always meant ''US'' , just like how the IEEE is supposed tobe a global organization but banned Huawei too
