I heard this game took off massively in China (not surprising, since it focuses on Chinese history). I'm around 100 turns in to the campaign, and it's definitely the best Total War yet. The history of this period is so intricately complex and it shows in the game.

Interest on the Total War franchise as a whole has been growing in the China for a number of years. This is igniting on what's been growing.

I was really anticipating the release for this, but while waiting I played a 300+ turn Total War Warhammer 2 campaign in less than a month, and now need at least a six month break from PC games :(

I installed it the day if came up. Then never touched it since just got a kid born. Guess I'll play it in a couple of months when I get some free time.

I have every total war game since the original shogun 1 except british one.

There's one faction in this game with Mongolian type cavalry units. But it's a smaller governor (Ma Teng) with no starting cities. The starting position is "very hard" but if you're a fan of maneuver warfare, try this faction. Prioritize horse pastures, build an all cavalry force special unit force (60% cav archer / 40% lancer), put strategist and vanguard generals in command, and then have fun wrecking armies many times your size lolz. Makes me wonder... if China had been unified by this faction, world history would've turned out VERY different! lolz

I wish there was more intel gathering in the game though... there is way too much fog of war and not much to see through it. They removed the agents which you could move anywhere on the map.

The reason Mongols had a cavalry heavy army was the same reason China didn't have one: geography.

It's not about who's in charge, it's about the land you live in.

Exactly, which is why this Ma Teng guy is located in that region, and there are two strategic horse pastures there
