"It is expected that Huawei's growth may slow, but only slightly," Ren told Japanese media in his first official comments after the U.S. restrictions, adding that the company's annual revenue growth may undershoot 20%.

Ren said the company was prepared for such a step and that Huawei would be "fine" even if U.S. smartphone chipmaker Qualcomm Inc and other American suppliers would not sell chips to the company.

Huawei's chip arm HiSilicon said on Friday it has long been prepared for the scenario that it could be banned from purchasing U.S. chips and technology, and is able to ensure steady supply of most products.

The Huawei founder said that the company will not be taking instructions from the U.S. government.

"We will not change our management at the request of the U.S. or accept monitoring, as ZTE has done," he said.

It's called damage control, trying calm customers and employees.

If US cut off TSMC , Huawei will be in trouble, you better pray on your knee it won't happen.

Then what do you suggest China do? Ban Apple from selling iPhones in China? Declare war? Cut off all ties with the rest of the world? That's what the Qing and Ming dynasties did and look where they are now. Other than causing massive unemployment and outflow of foreign capital, what purpose do they do for the Chinese people? China's best option right now is to contain the damage and find alternatives. A responsible government puts the interests of its people first, not personal fame or gain which unfortunately is becoming the norm for many Western governments.

Banning of Intel in China would be a great start.

They're punching a wall or swinging at air. Once again, I look at results, not the noise. Trump says he's the best negotiator but he can't get China to sign. So he failed; that's it. Results. Insulting the other side and losing the deal isn't punching anybody; it's wasting time. As long as China's still growing faster than the US, the punches aren't hitting.

Like you said, he's not trying to piss people off; he's trying to stop China from growing. I don't know what punches or rape or balls/guts or all that nonsense means. I just know success, objective achieved, or failure, objective lost.
Real estate price go faster also contributes growth faster, GDP growth, whatever you call it.

It's pretty much useless stats. No real value.

I understand everything they're thinking; we're on the same page. I don't understand what you're thinking, talking about rape and punches and bending over nonsense when we have not seen any success for the US administration holding back Chinese growth.

My language can be a bit blunt but I'm just describing what is happening. Also, ultimately I think China will succeed but Trump is unlike other US presidents as well, he is not controlled by the corporations and he is a nationalist. He is also obsessed with China. So things will get more heated.

IMO, both the US and China are two of the most aggressive, selfish and power hungry countries in the world. The "marriage" between the two countries has too much rivalry and anger to last, especially as China is going to overtake the US in the next 5-10 years. Therefore, I think we are headed to a divorce. Unfortunately, that's the case.

Fully agreed. I am seeing a lot of typical gutless cowardly behavior that is making me very concerned about the outcome of this trade war. With Mandarins like Wang Yi in charge, Plaza Accord 2.0 here we come.

No, Wang Yi is a tough cookie.

When trade war started, US hitting against MIC2025, the DengXiaoPing people are voicing criticism against Xi for rupturing Sino-US relationship and suggested to find a trade deal with US.
Who are some of the DengXiaoPing people? Hu, Wen, Jiang, and current Premier Li, Lu He.

Since then Xi toned down, avoid direct confrontation with Trump.

Xi waited all this time and at last moment pulled out, He said he going to take full responsibility of breakdown in trade.

Now, he showing those DengXiaoPing people the unequal terms US is demanding from China and probably tell them to shut up.

I have serious doubts Huawei can survive this beyond 2 years. Will China be able to replicate all of the supply chains within 2 years? I highly doubt it.

The US doesn't want a deal. China hasn't fallen far short in reducing it's necessity for crucial US high tech components from ICs to Jet engines. I think Xi gravely miscalculated early in his term beating his chest and acting like China is already a great superpower when much of China's technology still relies on crucial components from the US, a rival state, that cannot be replaced at all, unlike China's products to the US.

They have over $20 billion in bank .
China government can give them another $10bilion funding into research
Just laid off alot of the operation, sales, etc and be lean and mean and focus R&D for few years and make a come back.
