To address its own and country biggest weakness, Huawei must advance its chip manufacturing.

Absolutely. I just see a lot of overly cautious and timid behavior coming from China.

The strange thing is, China is a bully against countries weaker than it is. But it is gutless and cowardly to countries that are stronger. So much for "strongman" Xi. What a fake show. Mao Zedong was far braver honestly.

Russia is a far more courageous country than China is in every way.

And how's Russia doing right now compared to China? Is the Russian economy booming because it's so "courageous"? Or is their standard of living skyrocketing because of their insane amount of "guts"? Governing a country is not running some cartel, courage can only go so far. It takes real brains to run a country well and a good government should take the interests of its people as the top priority. China might not be the most "courageous" country in the world. Hell, the most "courageous" organization of the world is probably Al-Qaeda and ISIS. China sometimes might seem "weak" to the populists (i.e. 1996 Taiwan Strait Crisis, bombing of the the Chinese embassy in 1999 by NATO, and the South China Sea plane collision in 2001). But what it has done for its people in the past 40 years has been nothing but astonishing and that's the most important measurement of success for a government. If you have lived in China during the 1950s and 60s you'd know the tremendous amount of progress this country has made since then.

Except the U.S. has just as much leverage over ROK as it does over Taiwan, if not more so. They can block BOTH Samsung AND TSMC from doing business with Huawei. And I fully anticipate that they eventually will.

It's highly unlikely that ROK will ban Huawei. China has an insane amount of leverage on ROK as well. China is ROK's largest trading partner and 25% of its exports goes to China including critical sectors like semi-conductors and automobiles. Just look at the THAAD incident and how much damage it did to the ROK economy. Plus the current ROK president is not super pro-American like the previous one.

Yes but we have no idea what the next ROK president will be like. And we have no idea just how far the Trump admin will be willing to go to punish ROK for not forcing Samsung to cut off business ties with Huawei.

So basically Trump is raping China right now. China has two choices. Fight back and bleed. Or agree to be raped and bend over. Sure looks like it is choosing the latter.
How? Because it's not yelling back at Trump? It's growing it's economy, fast-tracking its technological development, selecting the correct items to tariff back so that it inflicts damage to the US without harming its own economy, and it's not being pressured into signing bad deals.

Don't confuse civility with weakness or foul aggression with success. China fights with strategy and getting in the face of an old man who likes to yell is not that. Look at the numbers and the facts on the ground. The US pulled the same play with Huawei as it did with ZTE and this time, the effect was much less.

Yeah, I don't know what the next ROK president is going to be like. But that's like saying we don't know what the next US president is going to be like. He/she can very well be a democrat and their strategies against China might see a 180 turn for all we know.

So when the US was not focused, China was bragging about becoming No. 1. But now that the US is kicking China in the stomach, now it's just keeping its head down and talking about survival?
Ooo. Talk about extrapolations. China never talked about being No.1. The MSM (Mainstream Media) of US were the ones who'd exaggerate every thing done by China, big and small, every achievements of her's, as a signaling of the fall of US , as the coming days of a new Cold War. They were busy for the past decade, as being with a specific agenda, to fear-monger and threaten the american citizens of a China that was "Rising too fast and determined to displace their Empire".

Can you give me one instance of the Chinese state media (as the mouthpiece of CPC) boasting of being the No 1 soon enough, of destroying US and displaying US as the preeminent power ? Help me, because i can only find modest boasting of China's achievements regarding new scientific breakthroughs, infrastructure projects, BRI initiative or improved standards of living as well as poverty alleviation.

One example was that of the Chang'e-4 mission to the far side of moon.
The MSM of US was quick to jump in the Cold war bandwagon- with opinion pieces flying about all across signaling the chinese achievement as "Sputnik moment" and "Space race v2.0" and what not.

So , NO. China hasn't boasted of being the soon to be King. US is suffering from a self inflicted paranoia.

"Rape" ? One person had a love for "balls". Now here's another using "rape" as freely as he/she seems fit.
Calm down. A china that has walked out of the trade talks with the US is a fighter in my books. No coward would do that.

No one's walked out of trade talks yet. It's all still up in there. Currently the US punching China hard with no recourse. That's what's happening.
