I think the Chinese government should demand as much national content in their own purchases and those of state owned companies as possible.
That would be enough to provide a market for home grown semiconductor products.
i'm sure they already do that for certain sectors. however for semiconductor, company need use quality chip to be competitive. ZTE is example, if they have decent domestic stuff, they wont need import US product. if they use less quality product it could mean the end of their business.

very dirty tricks indeed, and US is exposing its own hypocrisy for the entire world to see.
Trump said the US must win this 5G war by hook or by crook, and now he is walking his talk.
But the side effect is that the whole world knows US has really lost the 5G race, since Trump has to resort to hitting below the belt to get what he wanted.
Rules based world orders? my foot!
The US is tossing its moral leadership crown out the window in one stroke. The last shred of credibility has been nailed to the cross.
I am sure the other western leaders are shaking their heads in disbelief and in despair.

I am not so sure about that Huawei import certain chip because they use in their mid price product As it is cheaper to buy from Qualcomm and devoted their time and energy for high end Chip like Kirin
But push come to shove they can design mid price SOC and other chips I think unlike ZYR Huawei has been preparing for this day a long time So they are well prepared

It is blessing i disguise really now they have no choice but buying from domestic source reservation not with standing This in turn will spur domestic chip to improve the quality now that they have big client behind them

Chip making is low margin with high capital cost. They need buyer to justify high capital cost Now they have captive market. SMIC already started the production of 14nm finfet memory chip with high yield So it just matter of time really

It could perhaps affect the lowest end phones? Not sure whether those are somehow assembled in US or smt. At least the flagships won’t care.

But, it shows that it is time to put all energy into attack. America is evidently not salvageable as a market, since it is not acting according to international rules or good faith. It’s time to sink the (mainly) anti Trump electronics industry. Doing so will inspire rioting and unrest. At the same time, all American debt should be dumped, since their regime has proven to be unreliable and cheating.

from doing business in the US will not make the US more secure or stronger; it limits the US to inferior yet more expensive alternatives, leaving the US lagging behind in 5G deployment, Huawei said in a statement to respond the Trump administration's tech ban

I believe it is a great thing for China in the long run ... perhaps a bit hurt in the short time .. but it is very much a wake up call for all Chinese companies to rely on yourself and not at all depends on the US tech

Also do you think other countries wouldn't see it ? .. of course they do

This time is China ... once the trade deal with China done, which I believe will happen in June ... the next one mr Trump would focus is EU/Japan/India/Korea , etc, etc .. just wait for your turn ;)
