Is the US shooting itself in the foot by banning Huawei?

So if race can be caused by genetics as above, who's to say it wont affect other things in life.

For ex,ample, when is the last time a black guy didn't win the100 meters in the olympics. When is the last black guy win a swimming event? And when was the last non-chinese guy/woman win at table tennis.
I'm just observing, so please don't judge.

There are quite a few problems with that statement.

First, skin color is only a minor part of human genetics. Genes for melanin have nothing to do with genes for strength, speed, and endurance. The default skin color for humans is black. There is more genetic diversity in a single African village than the entire Europe combined. Therefore, a Jamaican and an Ethiopian could have a lot more genetic differences than between a white European and an East Asian. If we really wanted to talk about genetic differences in athletics, then we literally need to look at things that are more than just skin deep!

Second, training methods and the size of selection pool is the predominant determinant of athletic success in real life. The NBA is full of black Americans not because blacks are genetically predisposed toward basketball, but because basketball is a strong aspect of their culture. Swimming is still dominated by white people because swimming training requires access to swimming pools, which are expensive to maintain and generally unavailable to underprivileged kids. China is crazy good at ping pong because ping pong only requires a table and that's what China could afford as recreational sport back then. When you have a billion people playing a game, you develop some outstanding training method and talent pools.

While that is technically true, there is certainly association between certain genes for other things and skin color.

The default skin color is black.
Never heard of that before. Cro Magnon man was black before any other color but I don't know what default means.

There is more genetic diversity in a single African village than the entire Europe combined.
Certainly not true. Isolated African villages (or villages anywhere) are known for having highly homogenous DNA that can be very different from outside populations but absolutely do not have high diversity within themselves.

Therefore, a Jamaican and an Ethiopian could have a lot more genetic differences than between a white European and an East Asian.
Never checked but I don't think that's true.

Very important part!

The NBA is full of black Americans not because blacks are genetically predisposed toward basketball, but because basketball is a strong aspect of their culture.
I don't know about that. Why is it a strong aspect of thier culture? Because they are very good at it. Black people didn't invent basketball; what reason is there for them to embrace it more into their culture than other races have? China is a huge huge nation and probably has more basketball lovers than any other country; why isn't China a basketball superpower? Why do 50 year old NBA stars on the brink of retirement come to China and dominate all the young Chinese players? Genetics is very important.

Yeah ok, maybe.

Beijing's economic-technology zone in Yizhuang, in the southeast suburbs of the capital, will have 5G coverage by the end of this year, local authorities said Monday.

By the end of this year, the area will build over 200 5G base stations, covering the whole area, according to a conference held in Yizhuang.

The 5G network is expected to enable enterprises in the area to have faster connection and work more efficiently, according to officials in the are.

Beijing will spend more than 30 billion yuan (around 4.4 billion U.S. dollars) on building a 5G network in the city by 2022, according to a 5G development plan released in January.

It really doesn't matter what their racial background is. Xenophobia is xenophobia regardless of what one's racial background.
And it still doesn't make sense to upset your biggest customer, and for what?

As I said earlier, its the result of a push back championed by the likes of Brady and others.

Heres a paper she presented at the conference on"The corrosion of democracy under China's global influence" she presented in the US 2017.......she expands on what China has been doing from page 26 onwards.

Anyway I think the government is going to leave the call of using Huawei up to the GCSB (govt intelligence body)thus deflecting any blame by China on the government.
Reading comments made by the CEO of our major telecoms provider Spark, I think he's reconciled to the likelihood of using Erricson when he noted that we already using Erricson and Cisco for the base gear, and the cost of continued use of them fit in the provided budget.
Meanwhile our other provider "Vodafone" has just been sold to Infratel.NZ and a Canadian firm Brookfields.
I would think Infratel would be just as happy to us Erricson and Nokia because they do a lot of contract work for them in Australia.

But on the other hand,GCSB might follow the way Britain has gone.

Just a thought, do American or British business men/women even made donations to Kiwi political parties? If so, are you ok with that?

Currently, NZ allows political donations by individuals, but they have to be fully declared. Anonymous donations are not permitted. However, in these instances, I think Brady is suggesting that these donations were made by Chinese businessmen at the request of Beijing.
Personally I believe we should prohibit political donations altogether, with the cost of the elections carried by the state.

China's Huawei, 70 affiliates placed on U.S. trade blacklist

WASHINGTON/NEW YORK (Reuters) - The U.S. Commerce Department said on Wednesday it is adding Huawei Technologies Co Ltd and 70 affiliates to its so-called “Entity List” - a move that bans the telecom giant from buying parts and components from U.S. companies without U.S. government approval.

U.S. officials told Reuters the decision would also make it difficult if not impossible for Huawei, the largest telecommunications equipment producer in the world, to sell some products because of its reliance on U.S. suppliers.

Under the order that will take effect in the coming days, Huawei will need a U.S. government licence to buy American technology. Huawei did not immediately comment.

Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said in a statement President Donald Trump backed the decision that will “prevent American technology from being used by foreign owned entities in ways that potentially undermine U.S. national security or foreign policy interests.”

The dramatic move comes as the Trump administration has aggressively lobbied other countries not to use Huawei equipment in next-generation 5G networks and comes just days after the Trump administration imposed new tariffs on Chinese goods amid an escalating trade war.

The Commerce Department said the move comes after the U.S. Justice Department unsealed an indictment in January of Huawei and some entities that said the company had conspired to provide prohibited financial services to Iran. The department said it has a reasonable basis to conclude that Huawei is “engaged in activities that are contrary to U.S. national security or foreign policy interest.”

Huawei reported first-quarter revenue of $27 billion (£21.02 billion) last month and said it had shipped 59 million smartphones in the first quarter.

In March 2016, the Commerce Department added ZTE Corp to the entity list over allegations it organised an elaborate scheme to hide its re-export of U.S. items to sanctioned countries in violation of U.S. law.

The restrictions prevented suppliers from providing ZTE with U.S. equipment, potentially freezing the Huawei rival’s supply chain, but they were short-lived. The U.S. suspended the restrictions in a series of temporary reprieves, allowing the company to maintain ties to U.S. suppliers until it agreed to a plea deal a year later.

In August, Trump signed a bill that barred the U.S. government itself from using equipment from Huawei and ZTE.

Senator Ben Sasse, a Republican, said “Huawei’s supply chain depends on contracts with American companies” and he urged the Commerce Department to look “at how we can effectively disrupt our adversary.”

My analysis:
- this move won't have as large of an effect as this move had on ZTE
- Huawei is much more self-dependent in hardware
- A lot of softwares do have open-source alternatives particularly in the enterprise space -- perhaps they are not as well supported, but that's what the R&D team is for
