This is one fine looking vessel. Even the type 052c/d are decent lookers. Wasn't that long ago when we saw photos of the mock-up build using steel plates. The progress on this project has been moving to a phenomenal rate.

Forgot to mention the proper Chinese name. That should be Gao Ke.

This is apparently official. It's some kind of brochure for the PLAN's 70th anniversary celebration.

Length: 180m
Beam: 23m
Standard Displacement: 11,000 tons
Pennant Number: 101
Name: Nanchang

@Bltizo, your speculation based on old satellite photos was correct: the beam of 055 is indeed greater than 21 meters, by quite a bit in fact.

To be honest that is a bit of a surprise. I think 23m must be measured at its widest single point but most of the beam is probably closer to 21m

Sadly, we can't know what do they mean even when they use the seemingly clear term like standard displacement. Because standard displacement had once meant one thing and sometimes it is used to denominate another. It can be either displacement of ship with everything (crew, ammo, etc) but WITHOUT fuel or water. But it can also sometimes be used to replace the term "normal displacement", which is two-thirds of fuel/supplies/ammo etc. OR it can sometimes be used as "loaded displacement", which is ship with full nominal loads of everything, including fuel and water.

So... we can't really be 100% sure. Max displacement or empty displacement figures could be helpful, if they're ever published.
