Hello

Long time for me to post anything here but I wanted to share something that I've have digged up from the depths of chinese internet lately: The 707 and 891 aircraft carrier projects. (I also posted this thread on the rival china defense forum)

The first one 707 dates back to 1970, for a 30,000t carrier, to be laid down in 1980 and delivered in 1985. Not much additional information is given but the project was deemed too difficoult for chinese at the time and it was decided to focus on the nuclear submarines and Luda class destroyers developted at the same time instead. The sites gives images for the projects, but they are just US Essex class, Midway class or layout drawing of early post-war fleet carrier design.

Information about the project 891 is equally sparse but its dated in 1989 and was to be a 40,000t design. Alongside it, its mentioned that navalized variant of J-7 fighters were initially planned for the ship to be followed by naval variant of the J-13 (propaply the famous 'SAC naval fighter' design). This project also did not materialized for the obvious reasons.

Here is an atricle about the navalized J-13 program.

Also I digged up my own vaults and wondered if this obscure painting of an old chinese aircraft carrier is anyway related to either of the designs? After some additional research, it apparently was a painting on some institute's wall descriping the future of PLAN during the 80's. There is also a similar style painting which features Soviet pr.1143 Kiev class carrier in chinese service.

Welcome back, my friend, long time no see.
Number 891 sounds similar to two numbers which Severnoye design bureau refers to 051C and 052B, perhaps 891 was involving some things from Nevsky bureau. Have you got that picture of 1143 in PLAN colours?

First post in seven years! Are you interested in being moderator again? Right now Deino and I are the only ones active and the load is pretty heavy.

No I don't. Not even if you pay me :p In fact it reminds me why I left these circles long ago in the first place. But thanks for the more complimentary welcomes from you others.
