Yeah. The YJ-12 is huge. 2.5t weight and 6.3m long. You can't just use any average platform to launch it. You need a large twin-engine fighter bomber at least.

Looks like the competition is hooting up, as for the three European fighter mention don’t think Malaysia can afford the price tag. The Texas as mention has Israeli components and the is a definite no to the Malaysians unless they want to pay HAL the cost of integrating a non Israeli product which would push the cost of the jet up.

They're probably confusing the CM-400AKG with the YJ-12.

Besides, I don't think the YJ-12 is even allowed for export by international law, due to its range.
There's the CM-302, but I think that's a strictly surface launched YJ-12 variant (unless China sells to the Saudis and they integrate it onto the F-15SA, though that would probably violate US rules about installing 3rd party weapons).

A nice first step, but don't really count on the Malaysians. It is more likely Mahathir (he's too shifty IMHO) will try heavily to gain concessions (whether from China, India or Pakistan or even the Koreans) from other aspects by using the jet procurement plan as a leverage.
