1. Is this actually insignia or a moral patch.
2. Although unit patches may favor indigenous languages aircraft markings and livery often have English.

No it was enacted as aviation safety from the International Civil Aviation Organization in 1951. The objective being to ensure that communications over radio could be understood more easily. Since then a number of incidents have occurred due to misunderstanding have repeatedly proven that communications must be clearly understood justifying the standard on a single language.

Oh and PS. This is in English. Flogger is the NATO Previt code for the Mig23.
Also note the Hindu Arabic Number characters on all the patches. Again standardized and taken from the Hindu Spread to the west by the Arab end of the silk road and then across the world by Europe in there universal form.

And why?

You think its because English is naturally the most morally superior language ever devised by humanity or something? lol

English spread all over the planet because of British colonialism. That's why it's the "standard" (for now.)

Alright fellas, I think it's obvious what's going on. English is the official language of aviation and it was enacted that way in large for safety (common communication) but the reason that of all the languages, English was selected is that English-speaking countries came first to the aviation game and were the dominant powers when the current rules were made.

For the matter of aviation, it must be remembered that the civil aviation first budded in the US, an English speaking country. And it futher blossomed after WW2, with the glut of US-British air transports and bombers left over from the war, both are also English speaking countries. With the situation of Europe and Asia at the time, none are in a position to establish any civil aviation industry on their own. So naturally, both US and Britain wrote the first rules in the language that they are familiar with.
This is has nothing to do with any language being morally superior or better, but rather the chance situation of the time. Like wise Europe also readily adopted the Arabic numeral system over their own, and no one there is chaffing about it as another poster had pointed out.
And I am sure that Pakistan will be "thrilled" to adopt Chinese characters over English ones, considering that they are just as far removed from Urdu as Earth is from Pluto.

Wonder which versions will be sent for trials. Perhaps one of each of the first two blocks? JF-17 seriously needs a Chinese engine that isn't licensed RD-93 so more exports can be genuinely considered. A cost and purpose effective AESA and ability to fire PL-15s at max ranges will do wonders for this little fighter. The two statements made by the Malaysian PM regarding Pakistani military and JF-17 seem to show they have already decided. Otherwise those statements would have been such a tease!

Export barriers on the WS-13 has already been lifted for some time. It’s an upgrade for block 2 and onwards, but is expensive, so Pakistan has not bought it. Malaysia would probably go for combat effectiveness over cost effectiveness.

PL-15 export barriers have NOT been lifted as far as I know.

But Russians may not like WS-13 being exported, stealing sales from RDs? It is a licensed version of it unlike WS-10 which is not an AL-31 so can be exported.

Are you equating the technical sophistication of the Arabic numeral system (and its adoption) with the arbitrary/enforced choice of English?

If you can't understand the difference between the adoption of the numerals and the adoption of English... dude, I really don't want to explain it to you.

Why would we adopt Chinese characters? lol. Our civilization's 'universal language' is Arabic.
