Materials in the airframe would be one of, if not the most advanced of any plane in the world.

The J20 is slightly bigger than the F22 yet weighs 400kg less.

Nobody posting online knows what both these fighters actually weigh. Can't interpolate either because we can't really calculate just how much lift either generates in videos where you can sort of maybe tell acceleration given assumed max afterburner thrust.

There is no proof of that since PLAAF has yet to reveal the specs of the J-20.

Despite the larger body, the empty weight of the J-20 may be close to that of the F-22, largely because it has less-powerful engines without the heavy two-dimensional thrust-vectoring nozzles of the F-22’s F119s. (source: Nov 10, 2014

how would a Western journalist know with 50 pounds precision a "normal takeoff weight" of Chinese aircraft, LOL!

We’ve already had quite a few rows about plausible weight estimates for the J-20 in this forum. The basic truth of the matter is until official specs are published we’re all guessing in the dark. Aviationweek has no more clue about its weight than the rest of us do.

I am just sharing what had been reported by AWS. If you don't think it is useful then just ignore it. In this forum on Chinese matters, the majority are guesses. For instance, how do you know that the J-20 has a working AESA radar? .

There is sourced information and then there is blind guessing. We have decently sourced information about the J-20’s radar. We are mostly blind guessing about the J-20’s weight. Anyone can believe what they want but that doesn’t make all information equivalent in terms of evidentiary standards.

The only times we’ve gotten some semblance of sourced information about the J-20’s weight have suggested a much lighter figure than a lot of people seem willing to believe, which then seems to stir a lot of incredulity and even outrage that leads to dismissal of those sources on account of how weak they are. If we don’t consider the sourced information we do have as credible and we recognize that eyeball guesstimates are even worse than sourced information then really all that’s left is to wait for official specs.

Actually, out of pure curiosity, do you happen to have that source which states J-20's radar is an AESA? I am not interested in this evidence discussion but that notwithstanding, I've yet to actually see the AESA source for J-20.
