Thankd you. Quite interesting that they have the same denomination for their 130mm and CIWS.
Not sure if I understand your meaning by that. It is based on national standard GJB (National Military Standard).
The standard is something like A/BC-12 for many weapon systems (gun, missile, rifle etc.) The A is prefix for branch (Naval, Ground or Air) and can be omitted. B is the weapon's main category. The number is type which can by based on year of certification as in tank, artillery and rifle or something else in case of naval guns.
P: Any artillery (Gun, Howitzer or CIWS). The reason of "same denomination" is that they are all artillery.
J: Ship-borne.
11: 11 barrels? Another example of my uncertainty is H/PJ-38 the 130mm naval gun.

Two 055s at Shanghai... This is not PSed, unlike the last time. Although it has been altered to better highlight the ships in the haze.

In fact it is H/PJ-45, not 38 (According to the nameplate on the ship)
And the number 11 has nothing to do with barrels I guess, for they also name the 6*30 CIWS 'H/PJ-13'.

Most of the Spruance class is on the bottom of the ocean. Most were fitted with the Mk41 VLS up front before they shoved off.
Unfortunately yes. Decomming the Sprucans early and Sinkex'ing them was one of stupidest moves the USN leadership has made in recent decades. Considering all of the other screwed up programs that the USN has inflicted on itself (such as the LCS, DDG-1000 and CVN-78 fiascos, to say nothing of the F-35 mess the USN was forced to go along with), that's really saying something.
