According to a Chinese military news site, they are celebrating new missiles for J-20, of which 6 can be fitted into the main weapons bay.

Are your aware of what site is this, and who wrote the claim?

It was on this site yesterday:

But I cannot find it anymore. However, the fact that the Chinese Air Force displayed J-20 carrying 4 PL-15s implies that more advanced/compact version is in the pipeline and is about to enter service.

Yes it is effectively known that a more compact MRAAM is under development for J-20, likely at fairly advanced stages.

My question was which original source suggested that the photo was related to the new missile (i.e.: what kind of milestone they are celebrating), but if you do not know then that's fine.

That said, the flag is from the AVIC missile department and they're standing in front of one of the 201X prototypes, so if the photo is recent it could very well be related to some kind of missile related matter. But obviously it would be preferable to have some credible rumours

More high-resolution photos of J-20... The 3rd image has been shared before but in lower resolution. The last two images reveal more details on the side optical apertures located just aft of the nose radome.

I have the feeling that they are all older ... at least a very similar one to the second one was posted last February.
