what exactly do you mean by "modular" here?

one type of "modular" is

"Ingalls Shipbuilding uses modular construction techniques pioneered by the shipyard in the 1970s and refined over the years to maximize shipyard throughput."
Arleigh Burke Class Destroyers

another type of "modular" is what's inside

I wouldn't know about China, but US shipyards don't scramble modules built all over the country (as the UK did with the QE-class)

yet another type of "modular" is

"Four of six core modules were built at Surabaya shipyard, while the remaining two were constructed and tested at Vlissingen shipyard in the Netherlands."
SIGMA 10514 PKR Guided-Missile Frigates, Indonesia

It doesn't matter where the modules are fabricated, if in the same shipyard or somewhere else.
Only that the modules are transported to the final assembly area to be joined together.

It just saves so much time and money over traditional shipbuilding, which involved laying a keel, and then building everything upwards and fitting all the insides as they went along, or waiting till the end.

Hence my query on your comment that modular shipbuilding is non-regular.

The latest figure I read is that the type 003 will have a displacement of 107,000-110,000 tons.

I personally don’t think the type 003 will be >100,000. There is no real reason why it has to be that large, other than the latest US carrier is that size and type 003 is suppose to be in the same class. Anything over 80,000 tons will be in the same class. The next 20,000 tons will all be in the details.

The speculation (or more accurately, wish) of 003 being 100,000 tons is because some Chinese netizen enjoys competing toys. "US has ford class? I must have a bigger one. US has 3000 nukes, I must have 4000. US invaded somewhere, we must beat somebody too. etc. etc." Very childish.

That’s a straight up stupid. These guesses are from the informed/estimated specs of nuclear propulsion, 100 aircraft and 4 EMALS catapults. All of it point to a 100k ton+ ship unless it’s unusually compact.

From what we know, a carrier with that equipment needs to displace that much. Unless the PLAN has a way to drastically reduce weight, which is very improbable.

@Richard Santos

It might weigh a bit more than the Ford if it has dedicated drone support facilities.

"nuclear propulsion, 100 aircraft and 4 EMALS catapults" stands at the end of the road.

China now has two 20-aircraft-carrier, will upgrade to a 60-aircraft-design and the 100-aircraft-nuclear-carrier will be decided later whether it valuable for China or not.

Calm down a bit first.
Before calling me stupid, make sure to backup your statement that PLAN has determined 003 to have 100 aircraft, being nuclear powered, and share with me your source of claim. Otherwise, it is plain stupid and wishy-whoshy. Nobody is saying 100 aircraft nuclear carrier can be around 80000 tons, did I say that? I only said the 100,000 class 003 is baseless.

Whatever tonnage PLAN's post 003 becomes is not this thread about, nor what I am talking about.

I’m not calling you stupid, just the ridiculous claim that a full sized CVN ISN’T planned or that PLAN could somehow make it much lighter while preserving functions.

I invite you to look at CSICs own 003 models

All sources say around 100k tons in displacement and all models feature 4 catapults on a nuclear carrier.

Are we on the same page here? Im talking about the class of carrier that will be built after the 002 CATOBAR carriers in module construction right now.
