Can the QEC aircraft carriers three Phalanx CIWS mounts provide 360º coverage of the ship? Simple diagram show the answer is yes.

Fast, powerful and technologically advanced; yet so aesthetically pleasing. Still a fearful sight for our enemies though, and rightfully so. Under the white sheeting our first phalanx of three is being fitted.

LOL I'm not going to 'double-down' on Feb 27, 2018

now;
I'll say I was wrong once orders (for the Izumo refit and for F-35Bs) are placed OK?

in the meantime, some interesting quotes:

"Defense officials ... saying Izumo will be a multifunctional warship used as an aircraft carrier only when necessary for national defense."

"While the Izumo will be converted to carry fighter jets, it will be designated as a multipurpose helicopter destroyer, with no F-35B squadron expected to be permanently assigned to it."

Japanese and their dovish concessions to their Constitution. You can hear the government officials cackle maniacally in the background with their hands covering their faces though...
In practice it is an aircraft carrier.

Really don't understand why they haven't been able to get past this issue and change their constitution - China bangs on as it does because they don't want regional competition.

one of the factors is money LOL I'm cooking my dinner so just loosely connected points:
  1. if they go on with the plan, appropriations for like 5b will be needed (just to be sure, "the plan" is 42 F-35Bs plus the Izumos refit), approaching ten % of their yearly military budget; will they pay?
  2. vastly different levels of spending are needed for purely defensive military structure, and for expeditionary capabilities; would they increase the percentage of GDP spent on military, which has been very low? (around one %

    )? I set aside their incredibly high debt-to-gdp ratio as something I didn't figure LOL
  3. a possibility of starting arms-race big way (before WWOne, on occasion 16" battleship-guns were ordered based on rumors of Opfor planning 14", at the point when both Navies had just 12" if you know what I mean, LOL I won't be more specific in

    ) with huge financial burden

My grandson, poopeye, is stationed aboard Nimitz. He's here in Cedar Rapids on Christmas leave. He told me that Nimitz is getting some "upgrades" and so far the work is proceeding on time. They are scheduled to go back to sea in May.

The photo Jura posted is from March when Nimitz was first drydocked. The photos below show Nimitz sporting a new paint job. And yes a lot more work was done in the last nine months other than the new paint.
