is the canopy coated?

Yes, its likely the very likely gold plating that many aircraft canopies use these days for several reasons, at one time high end General Aviation used it as part of an anti-icing system,, it does also block radar waves to some extent....

There's definitely some kind of treatment on the canopy; in almost all of the high quality photos we can see the canopy isn't transparent but some of the light reflects in a rainbow in a way not seen on other Chinese fighters.

Considering some other aircraft like J-10B/C have a slight gold sheen to their canopy suggestive of a treatment, I suspect J-20 likely uses some sort of coating as well.

I see. I just wasn't sure because it's not as pronounced as the F22/F35
Loved your AMA btw.

Would blinding your enemy with an autotracking laser be practical in a dogfight XD?

thought I might share the wording inside
OPINION: Is China closing military gap with USA?
:

"While Beijing’s newest star turn, the Chengdu J-20, has more than a hint of Lockheed Martin F-22 and F-35 about its basic design, initially dismissive assessments from the West have been replaced with more measured consideration of the type’s likely roles and operational performance. Now entering limited use, it appears to be a serious advance."

at the edge of.
You would need a laser system that would recognize the target and auto track in a turn. However 1) by convention such weapons are generally banned. The protocols on blinding lasers specifically forbids weapons designed to permanently blind people.
2) even if you ignore that. Blinding the pilot in a close dogfight is dangerous to you as well as the other guy basically becomes uncontrolled and could crash into you.
3) even if you do temporarily disorient the other pilot his systems may still establish a target lock on.
It takes longer for a human to react to sight than to sound. All missile systems give audio cues specifically so that in the event of lock on the pilot can squeeze the kill button just that much faster.
4) many nations are looking into counter laser protection. Coatings, filters and the like to prevent flash blindness.
5) blinding the pilot doesn't nessisarily help you if there is a second seater.

Frankly I would rather that laser blind the IR air to air missiles, FLIR or burn out the radar seaker
