It's not a desert camo it's a desert scheme. Flat tan. A camo would mean the addition of other colors or even methods like wraps.
That is the grove for providing line of sight to the gunner's sight, which is currently covered by a movable steel plate.
What's above that dent on the left side of the turret?

Anybody has comparable RHA number for M1A or newer model? 750mm?
According to a ZTZ-99A tank commander in a CCTV-13 television report, the shielding of this Chinese heavy tank is equivalent to more than 1,000 mm RHA to ammunition like HEAT and APDS / APFSDS.

M1A2SEPV3 is estimated to have 1320-1620 mm of protection on its turret against HEAT and 960 mm against APFSDS. This is only an estimate, however, and thus shouldn't be taken as gospel.
