Couple effects
1)Still too many Chinese companies slow to adopt domestic tech. Banning US tech will fasten the adoption of domestic tech
2)To get even, take away Chinese market, half of US semiconductor tech companies will die.
I don't think number two is a viable option as of now for the PC market. There needs to be a comparable Chinese domestic alternative. A few years ago, the experts in the industry stated the time frame of having a comparable PC cpu around 2030. This time frame might have to be hastened now.

For mobile phones it is becoming increasingly viable but China needs to first vertically integrate its entire supply chain to prevent US applying measures against China's semiconductor industry as retaliation. For some industrial semiconductors it is viable, I think China can force a transition.

The key for China would be to adopt domestic technology without sacrificing too much productivity and competitiveness.

Not as good as Intel system but good enough to get daily job function done.
China now has Loongson, Zhaoxin (Cyrix x86 , 16nm 3Ghz CPU that can run windows 10), and licensed produced AMD CPU.

Again, China should target now thoseUS companies only have Sales and Application center. (non-intel) Kick then out.
Xilinx, Broadcom, Skyworth, Triquint, Analog Device. ,,,

It's better to target those US 'low-tech' companies operating in China especially in the F&B sector (for starter). Put a hefty tax on the profits of companies such as McDonald's, Starbuck, KFC, etc. The money, in the billions, can be used to support Chinese industries affected by the tariffs.

Not sure why China still let michael Pillsbury come to China. He's Mandarin speaking and disguised as China friend. But he 's total spy , coming to China to gather info.
He's the one gather enough info from Chinese articles and also from contact with Chinese military, and government officials.

He's the one wrote the one hundred year marathon, about China wanting to displacing US as the premier superpower in the world,

Ever since his book came out, alarm Bell in US has sounded. And leads to this current economic war against China.

Much for this China friend, he's single person doing most damage to China and US relationship.

Right now , he still going to China to gather info, and still going to talk show in China. Once he got info, he immwdiately feed back to US governmwnt side. Chinese people have no idea of he's about. He's Mandarin speaking Western spy.

Pillsbury is all smile, and speaks gentle, well mannered.
I can't believe Chinese people got duped so bad by him and still believe he's a China friend when he's single person doing the most harm to China US relationship.

Sometimes, China side is so naive about Western people. They cannot read Westerner correctly. Also, most Chinese officials think Trump was a joke, a cake walk when he first elected.

US Goods Trade Deficit Surges Near Record High (Don't Tell Trump)
Do not show this to President Trump, he will not be happy...

In the few months since President Trump unleashed his trade war, predicated on managing back America's massive merchandise trade deficit, things have gone very wrong, judging by the numbers.

Against expectations of a $70.6 billion deficit, August's goods trade balance plunged to $75.8 billion - just shy of July 2008's record high deficit of $76.025 billion...

Michael Pillsbury is most likely profiting from his position. It's like only Nixon can go to China. Nixon was a staunch anti-communist therefore he would not be seen as betraying the US like they could accuse of the Democrats if they were to advocate détente with China. Pillsbury was pro-China and now anti-China. That gives him some sort of legitimacy supporting those that you can say have racist motivations. It's like Gordan Chang. He's part Chinese so therefore it cannot be racially motivated if he agrees with anti-China views. Because you know someone wouldn't betray his own race unless it's legitimate...

Did you hear how Peter Navarro got a position in the Trump administration? Since Trump knew no China experts, son-in-law Jared Kushner did a search on Amazon on Chinese economics and Peter Navarro's book was the first thing that showed up. Michael Pillsbury probably got envious. Back in the time you saw Navarro on TV as a pundit, there was also economics professor Peter Morici saying the same things. For some reason Morici disappeared from TV. Now that Navarro is in the Trump Administration all of the sudden Morici is rearing his head in public again. Envious?

This is not just Trump because the only Chinese you see that are considered experts on China in the US are the ones that hate China. Or how the Oscars only nominate films from China as Best Foreign Language Picture if it's anti-China. Or how about Asian journalists cannot write anything that isn't pro-US on everything or it would been seen as foreign influenced and illegitimate to the public. Former General Electric CEO Jack Welch when in India oddly said India was ahead of China when he never held that position before and you never heard him say that again. Some people say he was paid to say it.

Just revoke michael Pillsbury visa to China!

Also, in Oct time frame, US, EU, Japan will launch a WTO amendment proposal about state subsidy and forced tech transfer , targeting China.

Right now SEA countries like Thailand, Vietnam are licking their chops to receive comapnies moving out of China. Right now companies moving out China are asian companies like Japanese, Korean, Taiwanese and some Chinese. It's projected there will be 10 millions jobs out of China in the next 5 years.

The haters and naysayers were always planning to attack at some point in one form or another, what's needed now is Chinese planning and counteractions to defend Chinese interests.

Equation

Lieutenant General
the hawks in the west wing don't want a trade deal, they want a full blown trade war and use it to achieve three objects:
  1. displace China from the heart of global supply chains, force companies to source elsewhere, anywhere but China
  2. force multinational corporations to stop doing business in China
  3. deny China access to all high techs, strangle "Made in China 2025".
China must carefully assess the situation, it's not about concession or reconciliation, it's about how much damage you can do to your opponent.

China already did. That's why those very same hawks in the West Wing are deathly afraid of China's OBOR and Made in China 2025. There's nothing they can do to stop it.
