I guess this is actually a thing now; the Chinese are, for better or for worse, putting mascots onto their aircraft. I was among the people assuming the dragon emblem on the J-20 was a photoshop, but with the lion on the J-11s it seems as though it's for real.

No, the Dragon on that yellow J-20 was clearly faked - I think it was even admitted by the photographer - while this Lion, similar to other dedicated unit markings are a more and more common sight to several Brigades.

the 131st Brigade had the famous Eagle head, the 54th an Eagle with a chevron, the 18th has a Hawk, the 16th this Eagle and several more are known.

Batch 3 J-16s with twin-pylons from Nanchang. There are also Russian-made Flankers at Nanchang which corresponds with the Russian R-77s seen below.

neat but I wonder what those twin pylons are intended to carry. AAMs or PGMs... or rocket pods lol
