For your topic, Wiki would be a good place to start with. You would find links to numerous english language books on the subject as well as articles to assist you.

One of the times they made a lot of news and maybe a place to start was during the Chinese takeover of Hong Kong and the Triads moving out to Vancouver and other places.

Have you tried contacting various large police forces like HKPD, NYPD or even Interpol? Those police forces would have the resources to deal with organized crimes.

Maybe the leadership were pushed out, but I'm sure the foot soldiers are still there.
