I have to go, so I jumped to the last paragraph where I can see

"Instead it is disappointing to see journalists persist with the ‘carriers with no planes’ rubbish, because it is patently untrue."

l think the author would need to show some F-35s on board instead LOL!

EDIT I'm briefly back: a supercarrier with an empty deck HALF A YEAR SINCE COMMISSIONING looks pathetic, it's P-A-T-H-E-T-I-C that's what I'm telling you from the middle of Europe
Just to be clear, you are talking about the USS Gerald Ford aren't you? People in glass houses etc....

I agree though. We did have an air group ready to go aboard, lots and lots of Harrier GR9s, but then those two treasonous bum buddies from Eton Cameron and Osbourne came in and screwed the armed forces over big time, damage it will take a generation to recover from.382392_370569729658049_193404834041207_1013845_99087792_n.jpg 540085_370569752991380_193404834041207_1013846_445845229_n.jpg 575303_370569786324710_193404834041207_1013848_1780988838_n.jpgThe plan was always to employ the Harriers in the interim (we had 74 of them in three frontline sqns) and then we could transition to the Lightning at our leisure. As usual the Government screwed themselves and the country in the ass just so they could get their rich buddies a tax break at our expense.

if you're teasing, it's funny, but you know the Ford has operated some Hornets for example

as for the QE, it looks like a poor coordination of the involved projects (ship/F-35), or worse

anyway the ship has been inducted into the RN, while she has no combat value now

(personally I'm saddened by this situation)

It was meant to be somewhat light hearted, but to be fair the Ford has not embarked a full air wing and is far from combat ready, so she is realistically on a par with Big Liz.

As I said the plan was to operate the Harrier force from her deck in the interim, but stupid politicians got in the way. We even slowed the build of the QECs so the gap between their service entry and the F-35Bs wouldn't be that great.

'No combat value' sorry, gotta call BS on that one. She could be pressed into service right now in the LPH role if required, we have 'form' on this (1982 HMS Illustrious sea trials were compressed into two weeks so she could be sent south to relieve Invincible. She wasn't properly 'Commissioned' until spring 83). She has combat value, she just hasn't been able to fully realise her potential yet. This process is deliberately being held to a snail's pace for financial reasons (as always), and should the appropriate emergency arise, things will move a lot faster.

Obi, Those patterns had a reason way back when today not so much. You see some ships in the Littoral combat ( patrol boats, Corvetts, cutters, missile boats and frigates) use a set of camo patterns but those are in Littoral.

I know the reasons for the patterns, it just occurred to me grey can get a bit boring...

C'mon, anyone want to see a Nimitz in a dazzle pattern?

It was a sign of the times as is the Flat tones we see today which are infact a form of simple camouflage. It's like why Tanks are Tan or Green. The Grey color value is chosen to match the primary of an Overcast day.
but if you really wanted to get a USN ship to pop I say skip the Dazzle and go back to the Classic

Bit of an oddity here, a picture freely admitted to be photoshopped but produced as a result of a schools history project: Big Liz in WW1 'Dazzle' Camouflage:View attachment 47441 From a personal and aesthetic point of view, would anyone here like to see the return of big bold camo patterns?

"Hell", I'd paint it white with red stripes, so any of those dumb SOB's that pulled something stooped would have some warning,, then I'd just "blow them to kingdom come"!, now that we have a Trump, we know the QEII could be uploaded by the US MARINES in nothing flat! he's NOT a Wussy, and will defend our allies, and enjoy doing it!

and I get sick of people singing the praises of the Liaoning, (nothing wrong with that is there!) then turning around and calling our newest carriers worthless hulks?? if anyone has any doubt, we can ramp up in a hurry, and now we have real military intelligence, not our intelligence agencies running interference for an old bat crazy candidate for the highest office in the land!
