I am still playing catchup and have only skimmed the last few pages but...... key question for me in relation to current and future Carriers
To what degree is China building Carriers or Developing Carriers?
It seems to me, that with so many and complex technologies to master and maintain at the cutting edge, that China is going to play safe with its early Carriers and try and stick with as much proven technology as it can (Conventional Engines etc) while it builds the experience of the new systems.
Early Model Carriers are most likely intended for protecting the near abroad, while the experience gained will gel into the later models intended for Global reach.
Point on this, is that it is still on the learning curve and so the thought of building significantly more advanced vessels at this stage seems unlikely.
It is not so much that they could not do it, but that they need to master and "prove" a lot of the new technologies/systems that they are currently getting to grips with before committing to anything significantly more advanced.
The risk otherwise of jumping ahead to quickly, is a very expensive nuclear powered turkey and one that could have been avoided if a little more patience had been employed.

related to so called naming of Chinese carriers issue, I recalled before this post:

since I looked at them, I post:

I had noticed different people claimed different pictures to be faked; so which one is legit (LOL if any)?

plus, I know nobody cares but I suggested Apr 8, 2018

to change
Type 001A (CV-17 Shandong) Aircraft Carrier News & Discussions
to
The 1st Domestically Built Chinese Aircraft Carrier News & Discussions

here it'd changing
Type 002 (CV-18) Carrier News & Discussions
to
The 2nd Domestically Built Chinese Aircraft Carrier News & Discussions
etc.

Than you mix 1st and 1st, because Liaoning is the 1st carrier. The next carrier is the 2nd carrier.

I also suggested 26 minutes ago

to change

to
The 2nd Domestically Built Chinese Aircraft Carrier News & Discussions
Than you mix 2nd and 2nd, because the carrier now ready for sea trials in Dalian is the 2nd Chinese carrier. The CATOBAR will be the 3rd carrier.

From your two photos you probably can already tell which one looks more PSed. The second one has the first four characters on the first line being whiter than the rest (yellowish). That means the four are PSed without adapting to the right white balance of the original photo. Here is the same photo from the official site after they (the shipyard) PSed it for a better understanding.

Here you can see the color of all characters is uniform. There would not be a reason for these web sites to call "002" if there is no official evident to support, instead people would have just continued to call it what ever names people use to call it.
