I have been predicting this for years.
I believe the Izumo calss can be converted...and in fact was built with that contingency in mind.
further believe that Japan will add two more similar carrier, built from the outset for the F-35B at some point down the road.
Big Liz will be on her way to the Eastern Seaboard of the US possibly as soon as June to carry out trials with two fully instrumented F-25Bs from 17(R) sqn, after which or even during which USMC aircraft may join the fun for a 'first look' at the ship, and who could blame them? Regular deployments may have to wait until 2020 (only 18 months away, wow, time flies!). QE is back to drydock in 2019 for routine hull re certification work, and phase II F-35B trials are scheduled to be carried out from HMS Prince of Wales R09 which is on course to be delivered sometime next year.
The first 9 F-35Bs of 617 sqn will be transferring to the UK in a matter of weeks permanently to begin training operations from RAF Marham in Norfolk, set to be home to all UK F-35Bs (207sqn, 617sqn and 809NAS, plus two more sqns set to form in the mid 2020s).
