"We have heard directly from the Chinese government that soybean imports are a prime target for retaliation," said Nebraska Soybean Growers Association Executive Director Lori Luebbe.
She said Nebraska exports $820 million of soybeans a year to China
That is the equates to one in three rows planted every year in the state is sold to China.
"We should be talking about actions that grow this important market not risk losing it," Luebbe said.
"The U.S. government and farmers have worked for decades to establish markets for U.S. soybeans in China, these steel tariffs put years of work in jeopardy."
Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts said Monday he has had phone conversations with U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross recently.
"So we have been giving our feedback into the administration in regards to these tariffs and the potential retaliation and detrimental effects on agriculture in our state," Ricketts said.

China's response seems very slight, i.e. tariffs on $3bn of US goods vs US imposition of tariffs on $60bn of China's goods. No doubt this is partly because China does not wish for the dispute to escalate, or to be seen as the escalatory partner. But such a mild response risks further emboldening protectionist sentiments in Washington.

the Chinese tariff of US $3B product is to respond for Steel and Aluminium tariff.

The $50-$60B of Chinese goods tariff is not clear yet and Trump hasn't announced it yet (I doubt he will) ... once the decision been made which I doubt it ...... China would respond to this big one accordingly .. which for sure would include soy bean and beef and possibly Boeing

Mom and pop farms are destined to give way to corporate farms in the end, better not to give false hope.

Very unlikely US farms that export to China currently will by and large go bankrupt. Most farms in the US are corporate farms. They'll have the resources to weather a short term dispute and to adapt to a longer term change in customers if need be.

Look like a lot of hog farmer in Farm belt will go bankrupt On the other ledger a lot of Chinese farmer will get new lease on life. Over the last couple of year a lot of Chinese hog farmer went bankrupt. Because of changes in hog bussiness with more stringet environment requirement and proliferation of large corporation in hog farming depressing the price of pork
Now they can look ofrward for higher price to sustain pop and mom pork producer!

f pork in the market, With this new tariff they can expect price will go up enough to revive pop and mom hog producer

True but remember when profit goes down the 1st thing Corp does is a round of layoffs.

You got it wrong the 3 billion tariff is for the Trump tariff on steel and aluminium China keep the powder dry for the next 50 billion trumpf tariff that surely will be match with the same amount of tariff that is the next round Sofar the trump administration has not detail the item subjected to tariff

thanks for answering;

my whole point has been I'm curious how big financial losses would be the US willing to suffer for a hypothetical
Trade War with China
to make sense, from the strategic point of view, for the US, like 100b, 1t, ... just thinking aloud, I go to bed, now take care
Flying_Fortress
LOL

Its not hypothetical.

ITS PLAYING OUT RIGHT NOW IN FRONT OF YOUR EYES.

I think we should start a pool, let's see how much each combatant will suffer at the end of this trade war. The result will show up on the GDP in the next 2 years or more.

China urges U.S. to address trade dispute through dialogue

China hopes to address the trade dispute with the United States through dialogue and consultation. But if any party insists on starting a trade war, China is ready to take any necessary measures to defend its legitimate interests, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said Tuesday.

Geng Shuang made the remarks at a routine news briefing when answering a question related to the recent trade dispute between China and the United States.

The Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council on Monday announced the suspension of tariff concessions on 128 U.S. products, including pork and fruit, according to the Ministry of Finance.

Geng said this was a countermeasure in response to a previous U.S. move to slap tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, known as U.S. Section 232 measures, but not a countermeasure for the U.S. Section 301 investigation.

"We don't want a trade war, but we are not afraid of it. If someone insists on starting a trade war, we will fight till the end," Geng said, adding that China has the determination and ability to take any necessary measures to defend its legitimate interests.

Geng stressed that China remains open to negotiation, and hopes to properly handle the dispute with the United States through dialogue and consultation.

"We hope the dialogue and consultation will be in accordance with international law and trade rules and based on mutual respect and equality," Geng said, adding that the United States should stay rational, listen to calls from business communities and common people, discard unilateralism and trade protectionism, address the dispute through dialogue and consultation, and work with China for the healthy and steady development of bilateral trade to benefit both peoples.

comes to my mind
The doc is VERY likely a forgery. @keldon, FYI. There has been numerous forgeries by FLG, or people like 郭文贵 (Guo Wengui) who seeks asylum to use these faked "secret" document to sustain their claim.

See the real one that is demonstrated in CCTV. Look at the header.

The title is also wrong. Wrong word between two equal entities. I will NOT say exactly what is wrong, because I don't want to aid the future potential forgeries.
