The beauty is they will refuse to see it that way and find comfort in denigrating other people to make themselves feel better about the sandcastle they built around their heads. I'm sure there are ones who are nothing like this, but military forums are filled with these chauvinistic idiots. The same actually applies to Chinese and Pakistani forums. Thankfully, we have some level headed people here who are not against discussing and criticising Chinese efforts when reason calls.

Watch in the coming years or decades, as India goes around shopping for >10K T destroyers/cruisers. FGFA will likely go ahead since it's the only financially realistic option and should offer great improvement to IAF capabilities. They'll also shop for new subs and munitions and sensors to go with these new weapons. Same old. This made in India movement Modi wants to instill nationalism with will likely not reap many benefits if any. We'll see. Indians certainly are capable of great things. They have in the past but democracy has worked against them and unfortunately the Brits really screwed them over. Even this unfortunate division of India into these separate countries has its impacts. At least when done by the Brits.

On a different topic for just a second, has there been any updates of the Indian Aircraft Carrier? (the one launched a while back) Haven't heard much news about it lately.

Still along way to finish look for 2023. Here is some photo. With the radar supplier still undecided and no CIWS

Anyone know the status of the second Akula class lease to India from Russia?

The Akula is a VERY decent SSN, it would be a very decent SSN escort for India's aircraft carriers and they need at least two to tie them over to whenever it is that the Indian Navy might produce SSNs of their own.

the work for the leasing of a third Russian nuclear submarine by India is progressing seriously. The selected submarine would be modernized for six years at the Zvezdochka shipyard. Source:

Comment: K-322 Kashalot's hypothesis seems abandoned, the candidates being the K-295 Samara and K-391 Bratsk. This operation would allow Russia to finance part of the modernization of its 971 projects in 971M. The first in overhaul, the K-328 Leopard, is at the site since 2011 and should not return to service before 2018 (at the earliest!).

INDIA SUCCESSFULLY TEST-FIRES NIRBHAY LAND-ATTACK CRUISE MISSILE

Nirbhay-Cruise-Missile-01-692x360.jpg

India’s Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) successfully test-fired the Nirbhay sub-sonic cruise missile from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, Odisha on November 07.

According to a press release by India’s Press Information Bureau (PIB), the Nirbhay cruise missile flew for 50 minutes to a range of 647 km. The PIB’s release states, “The flight test achieved all the mission objectives completely from lift-off till the final splash.”

The Nirbhay has a strike range of up to 1,000 km. It can travel at a cruise speed of Mach 0.7 and an altitude as low as 100 m. It is a two-stage design with a length of 6 m, diameter of 0.52 m and wingspan of 2.7 m. Its gross weight is 1,500 kg. The cruise missile’s guidance suite comprises of a domestically developed and produced Ring Laser Gyroscope (RLG) with a GPS-assisted MEMS-based Inertial Navigation System (INS).

DRDO’s test is the fifth since 2013. However, three of the Nirbhay’s prior tests (in 2013, 2015 and 2016) were unsuccessful. With the Nirbhay, India’s objective is to domestically secure a cruise missile that is directly analogous to the U.S. Tomahawk and Pakistan’s Babur. The Nirbhay will complement India’s supersonic cruising Brahmos with a sub-sonic solution, which is suitable for fixed targets.

The Nirbhay will also utilize a domestically developed miniature 4.25 kN turbofan engine – designated Manik – from DRDO’s Gas Turbine Research Establishment. The Economic Times had

that for the recent test, the Nirbhay was equipped with a miniature turbojet engine instead of a turbofan powerplant.

In early November, DRDO also successfully tested its Smart Anti-Airfield Weapon (SAAW). The SAAW is a stand-off range air-to-surface glide bomb with a range of 70 km. It has a gross weight of 120 kg.

This greatly improves India's ability to fight serious wars and strengthens deterrence. Neighbours will want to make sure their valuable bases are not within land launched striking range. Wonder what platforms will be able to launch this missile and its costs compared to Chinese, Russian, and American equivalents.

Additional Akula's for India may not be coming after all. Serious issues of trust in the relationship with India are starting to hit Russian news:

Kommersant: Submarine scandal surfaces between Russia and India
An unprecedented scandal broke out between Russia and India with Moscow suspecting that New Delhi granted US Navy representatives access to the Russian nuclear submarine of Project 971i, operated by the Indian Navy since 2011. According to Kommersant, the incident threatens to seriously complicate negotiations both on the lease of the second nuclear submarine, and on other projects in the field of military-technical cooperation between the two countries.

Several sources in Russian state structures have confirmed that with the newspaper saying that the Indian partners have recently committed several "unfriendly acts towards Russia." First, according to them, the US Navy delegation visited the aircraft carrier Vikramaditya (property of the Indian Navy) and Russian officials were forced to issue a note of protest. After some time, a high-ranking military source told Kommersant, the American delegation was already on board the Chakra.

Kommersant’s source working in the military technical cooperation system, called the fact that the US Navy appeared on a Russian submarine (located on the base near Vishakhapatnam, pending repairs) outrageous. "There were well-trained technical specialists, though unlikely to get any information," the source said.

According to the newspaper, this whole string of incidents can have a very adverse impact on defense cooperation between the two countries, which has been successfully developing over the past five years. According to several sources, specialized Russian structures are preparing retaliatory measures against their Indian partners. "Very difficult conversations are on the horizon, we have a lot of questions," a source said. Some who spoke to Kommersant believe that, in particular, the negotiations on leasing the second nuclear submarine, which the Indian Navy planned to obtain from Russia, will be seriously complicated.

According to Kommersant, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, who intends to come to India in December with one of the largest deals on Russian arms, will have to iron out the problems that have accumulated. In addition to the Chakra issue, he must negotiate the creation of a fifth-generation fighter under an agreement which was signed back in 2007, but neither the airplane's conception nor its financial parameters have been determined yet........

Can't say one could not have seen this coming. Huh, when Pakistan bought the Block-52 F-16s. The Americans were adamant that Pakistan Air Force house these F-16s in a completely seperate air base. They wanted these aircraft nowhere near our Chinese friends, with whom we have regular exercises. Imagine what American reaction would be, if Pakistan invited our Chinese allies to the air base the Block-52s are housed. Or better yet, use these aircraft in Air-War exercises with PLAAF. The Americans would probably impose a ban, sanctions, protests, stop spare parts supply or some sh1t like that.

The Russian Federation is well within its rights to hold india accountable for its actions when it came to access to their Akula Class Submarine

Has this been proven to be true though? Even official sources from Russia can't be trusted. Same liars said for weeks that China sent its first carrier to fight in Syria a couple of years ago. I am skeptical that Indians would do this for no obvious gains. Russians are more important than Americans to them at this point in time. Unless they've completely gone over to the US side and cooperating in bringing China down (along with working against Russia), there's just no benefit in showing USN personnel their sub. Especially a Russian sub and not one of their own. They're not stupid enough to think the Russians won't care so this story seems like a fabrication or exaggeration.

There's little evidence for India's involvement with US. In fact I think China and India probably worked things out behind the scenes without dumbass nationalists from both sides shouting abuse at each other. Peace in Asia and Eurasia is of vital importance to all major parties in this region. Except for the US. Indian leadership must understand this. You can bet your house that the Chinese leadership do.

Why Russia has come out with this claim is a mystery. Maybe they're trying to send a message to India. At most Indians would have shown crew quarters or something similarly unimportant like when PLAN showed USN personnel their sub and destroyer interiors. I understand you guys have personal vendettas against India but let's not jump to conclusions. Especially when Russian media is involved.
