Of course, agreed, fire control is much more important than the maximal number or missiles, but sometimes quantity has quality of it's own, as Stalin said, and let's not forget propaganda value of being al pari with the USN on that regard.
Totally agree with the bold part.:)
But I really don't care the propaganda value as I don't care what others think or say. :D And I think this is how PRC has been acting so far.

63 cm for MK-57, 55 cm MK-41 interior not easy to know but US missiles are more compact
I don't think size efficiencies can mask a 20-30 cm difference in cell diameter. Even if it could though, such a wide margin of difference reflects significant differences in growth margin. Chinese missiles won't lag behind the US's in basic technologies for much longer. In fact, in terms of basic technologies, they may have already caught up.
would you please describe/depict where you envisioned additional cells might be installed on Type 055, in what numbers?
You could probably incorporate one more row by stretching the hull a little. It wouldn't have been that hard to do if they really wanted 128 per ship. After all, ships are not planes. There are still limits and trade offs to space, but those margins are significantly more relaxed.

be careful what you wish for ... you may get it instead ;):p
at this point I kindly ask everybody not to refer to FORBIN, whom I reported yesterday in the afternoon in Europe, before Moderators address the situation (it sometimes may take them sixty or so hours, while in the past, when Jeff was fully active, it would be like ten hours max., day or night)

this is as much as I can do except starting to talk to FORBIN, which is still avoidable, I hope
