LOL GTFO with that list. Including LPDs, helicopter carriers, and amphibious assault ships in a list of aircraft carriers in order to inflate CV-17's position is just ridiculous.

Very classy reply.

Anything that can operate and support Harriers and F-35Bs are carriers in my book. These crafts are designed for the operation of jump jets in mind, there are literally aircraft carriers. By your definition only US has carriers which is ridiculous. If anything current super carriers of US Navy are the exceptions in aircraft carrier design.

High speed, a hull that is divided in the transverse and longitudinal direction into water-tight divisions, divided machine rooms, that for me are characteristics of a "real" aircraft carrier. Everything else are helicopter carriers, escort carriers, landing craft with flattop, Jeep carriers, aircraft carrying merchant ships, etc.

Can you please explain to me how by "my" definition only the US has carriers, especially since I already listed the actual types of aircraft carriers in this very thread before you wrote anything, so obviously you read it. So it seems strange to say the least that you would make this queer accusation about what I think qualify as aircraft carriers. Actually, I take that back. Not what I think qualify. What actually ARE aircraft carriers, that is, those ships that primarily carry fixed-wing fighters designed for air superiority +/- strike. There are precisely 9 ship classes in the world that qualify as aircraft carriers. I'm even counting those dinky little Italian CVEs and the STOVL carriers. Amphibs are not intended to confront other enemy surface combatants in force-on-force scenarios, so including LHDs and LPDs in your list is disingenuous to say the least.

If Queen Elizabeth can be considered advanced because of its non-existent F-35, Liaoning can be considered advanced with its non-existent J-31.

Truth is , neither Charles de Gaulle nor Queen Elizabeth is state of the art. Even Nimitz is not.

But each of them can claim advanced in some aspects, so does Liaoning. It's a capable platform that many countries can only dream of, with state of art sensors.

Case is closed for me ;)

2nd aircraft carrier undergoes power system tests
By Deng Xiaoci Source:Global Times Published: 2017/8/8 23:23:40
China has started testing the power system of its first domestically-built aircraft carrier, and hopes to begin a mooring test next month ahead of schedule, the project's head said on Monday.

Hu Wenming, head of the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation who has chaired the research and development of the Type 001A carrier, announced the tests on Monday during an interview with China Central Television's Asia Today program.

"The mooring test will show that the aircraft carrier's engine and electric power supply are capable of functioning properly and independently. And I believe that we can begin the mooring test next month," Hu explained, adding this will indicate whether the vessel's equipment is ready for a sea test.

The mooring test would fully activate all of the ship's systems, including its power, communication and direction systems while it remains in the shipyard, a step before a series of sea tests for different purposes, Li Jie, a Beijing-based naval expert, told the Global Times.

A mooring test and a sea test are the final stages an aircraft carrier must pass before it begins active service, Hu said.

Hu added that the Type 001A leads the world's 40,000 to 60,000 ton-class carriers in terms of technology.

Both the Typ001A and its carrier-based airplanes are entirely home made, and that is an advantage, Li said.

For example, Li said some of the aircraft on UK carriers are from the US.

The carrier's independent design proves China has made breakthroughs in its metallurgy capability, Cao Weidong, a researcher at the PLA Navy's Academic Research Institute, was quoted as saying by the People's Daily on Tuesday.

The deck area has likewise been modified to favor more aircraft over guns and missiles as attack weapons, and the flight-deck operations command center is more concealed, Cao added.

The Type 001A, China's second aircraft carrier, was launched in Dalian, Northeast China's Liaoning Province on April 26.

Not sure why you keep belaboring this inanity except that you hate admitting you were wrong. It's pretty obvious where the CV-17 stands in relation to other carriers.

Except I don't agree with you to in thinking that CdG is superior to CVF or CV-17.

I consider the USN CVN classes to be in a close category of their own, followed by another close category of CdG, CVF, and CV-17, and then followed by Kuznetsov, Vikram, Vikrant as another cluster, and then followed by the smaller carriers like the Italian ones.

Can't tell you ALL the steps involved but mooring test is as its name suggest. Properly moving and parking the darn ship. lol it's actually a very significant and crucial milestone in the launch of a ship. The ship's navigation, communication, and other navigational aids are all tested. The equipment involved like anchoring, winches, braking, mooring lines are all, laid, inspected and tested.
The ship is then put through a series of test on docking, steering etc.
