Great questions...the simple answer is the US has provided the Philippines with a lot of gear.. Mostly second hand. including three old Hamilton class US Coast Guard cutters.

Recently the US gave the Philippines machine guns & other NEW small arms weapons;

I think the US government is leary of giving the RP money or new gear for concern that it will disappear on the Black market. Also the US government is not fond of Philippines President Duarte.

This second link is rather lengthy...realy lengthy... It is a compilation of all the Philippine military threads since 2005...I'd start about 2013..

I think the most powerful weapon the Philippines recently receive is the M134D Gatling gun. These machine guns if installed on top of some decent APC/IFV would be a real threat to the extremist. But there are only 4 of them, a bit too few.

The Philippines have no border to defend. Only 7,100 islands. What they really need are decent well armed coastal patrol ships/craft.

As for their army and air force. They need about 24-36 COIN aircraft like the Super Tucano. And also attack helicopters...many to choose from. But what can they afford with a limited military budget??

As for their army they need body armor and weapons like an M-4 or AK-74M. Perhaps a PLA Type QBZ-95. (?)..something along those lines. Night vision gear would be helpful.

Three new aircraft carriers taking to the water...all of them a credit to each of their nations...not to mention the Type 55 and that new JMSDF DDG.

...hold on to your hats because more is coming too.
