When does a partnership automatically equate to transfer of technology?
Basically a joint venture to develop a plane results in both companies being able to profit in selling the product. Unless there is something COMAC can uniquely provide to the project I doubt the Russians will share their technological advantage either.
At the end you need something to give in order to gain unless COMAC is willing to fund 100% of the project which defeats the reason in a joint project.

That's the thing, I'd imagine that COMAC will be funding most of the project since the Russian advantage is expertise while the Chinese advantage is money.

China is not funding more than 50% of the entire project, the funding has being divided equally in 50% for Russia and 50% China.

it means 50% for each side, the construction rights probably is 50% of the aircraft is build by Russia and 50% for China, this means the profits very likely are divided in the same way.

there are 2 engines options, the PD-35 for airliners that want a Russian engine and american or British engines for those airliners wanting a foreign engine.

Only China will have the final assembly line, Russia will have only manufacture and design centers.


China is not investing more, the only reason it was decided the final assembly will be in China is because China has a Market 4 times bigger for commercial aircraft than the CIS countries, China has being predicted will buy around 6000 aircraft in the next 20 years, the CIS countries around 1500, thus the decision of having the assembly line in China was because China is supposedly to need around 600 aircraft in the B-787 class, while the CIS might not need more than 150-200 aircraft

But if i am not wrong even PD-35 might have Chinese components

What happened with ARJ 21 production and deliveries? They supposed to have a lot of orders for that plane, or it is cancelled, or they are waiting some modernized version...?
Same question for MA 600?
Any news on MA 700 progress?

What happened to ARJ21? Someone had questioned the status and prospect of ARJ21 a short while ago in this thread, throwing doubts on the future of the aircraft (I'm not talking about you AF-1).

Here are the highlights of the news:
截至目前,上飞公司共有五架飞机一同进行总装,这创下了中国商飞公司成立以来,同时生产飞机的数量纪录。按照计划,今年年底前,上飞公司的生产线上将同时总装6架ARJ21飞机,全年交付数架飞机,实现小规模量产,且保持交付数量逐年提升。

Currently there are five ARJ21 on the COMMAC assembly line. There will be six before the end of the year. ARJ-21 is currently at the small-batch production stage. The number of deliveries will be increased gradually from year to year.

上飞公司介绍,ARJ21的后续生产将向浦东总装基地转移,目前浦东年产30架的ARJ21总装厂房正在建设,计划2018年投入使用。“两个基地相加,未来ARJ21年产量达到30架以上,届时,国产新支线新将实现大批量生产,并为将来的C919、C929的量产积累经验。”中国商飞公司负责人表示。

The follow-on ARJ21 production will be shifted to the new final assembly hall in Pudong, which is under construction now and is scheduled to be put in use in 2018. By then, the combined production capacity for ARJ21 from the two assembly lines will exceed 30 aircraft. By then, ARJ21 will begin batch production; they will also accumulated experiences for future batch production of C919 and C929.

How many C919 will be produced each year ? If there are orders for 600 aircraft, I would guess that production capacity should be more than 60 planes a year.

Now that is what I am talking about

Like in the pharmaceutical industry the "scale up" is the crucial part in going from bench top to manufacturing

Same in aviation industry, building few test units to full scale production throws up many technical challenges

Hope they move smoothly and with care

Great go see china now doing the number on these two units ARJ21 and C919
