I can imagine that it would be a good Q-5 replacement for the Q-5s export customers.

But the weapons mix on the display looks more "multi-role" than "ground attack" to me, so it might be meant to show off its capabilities as a trainer for multi role aircraft (or perhaps as a low cost multi-role aircraft for those who can't afford anything more expensive ?).

Yea, I suppose it could be a Q5 replacement for air forces that still require a Q5 type plane, I can see those outside pylons being replaced by rocket launchers.

April 26th at 18:51, the first JL-9 improved version produced in GAIC this year was transferred from final assembly to test flight facility. The plane was also the first manned aircraft delivered by the assembly this year.

What were the improvements?
It might just refer to the naval version with DSI, peaked vertical tail, sharp LERX and no tail fins.
For the carrier version is still too early.

Hmm ... New images from the Roll-out ceremony at Hongdu from April 28th now show the L-15B prototype much clearer and first of all it seems to be based on the LIFT version – as demonstrated by prototype 06 – powered by a pair of afterburner-equipped AI-222K-25F. Also, it already shows the typical PLAAF-symbol, which is surprising since I thought the LIFT version – now renamed L-15B – is an export version only … So will the PLAAF also introduce this version ?? … maybe as a Q-5 successor ??

However from these images it looks more like a mock-up ??!
