The F-35 has a projected service life until 2070 with delievers of new F-35 until at least 2037. Saying that a stealth fighter of the 5gen group in 2020 is too late is absurd at best.

Even ignoring the fact that 5gen is just an umbrella term and significant improvement happened from the F-22 to F-35 in avionics and EW, the same will be applied to other aircraft in the same gen.
All indications are that the divergence between fifth and sixth generation aircraft is immigration of directed energy weapons, AI level computers and a more efficient engine.

There are currently NO six gen prototypes, lots and lots of drawings, tailess, pilotless, blah, blah, blah, but no aircraft. In my professional opinion, there isn't even a clear set of parameters that define what a six-gen would be/could be, so for now we should be looking to do a 5.5 gen with the Raptor or YF-23 upgrade proposal here in the US.

This should be a priority using the latest very fuel efficient technology, pushing the performance envelop with Stealth and higher Supercruise, forget OVT, that's yesterday, and will ultimately compromise our speed and L/O!
I expect 5.5 or true sixth generation aircraft to some form of thrust vectoring. But the heart of the system will be changes in lethality, moving to long range yet more compact missiles, use of lasers and a computer interface more like R2D2 then simple displays.

Looks like we will see several different concept for future combat aircraft.

The USA is rather conventional despite trying to integrate new toys like directed energy weapons, while the German/Airbus concept would be a system of systems with a comeback of the weapon system officer for command and control tasks of drones fleet.

I've never seen a j15 taking off with that kinda loadout from Liaoning b4 though. Is it speculation or do we know as fact it can do that from the ski Jump?

No you haven't and you likely won't that's my whole point gentlemen, the J-15/SU-33 is NOT optimized to operate off the ramp of the Liaoning, Shandong, or Kuznetsov! They are lovely airplanes, and they will carry a lot of fuel, and a lot of ordinance, but in order to utilize their versatility, you NEED a CATOBAR carrier. What they do off the ramp is great, but they will NOT launch with a full combat load-out, and full fuel!

The FC-31 will probably need the WS-13 to come up to its full potential, they may even marginally upsize it to Super Hornet dimensions and power it with the AL-31F or something similar, but it has the potential to be a more versatile performer off the ramp than the Flanker, that's all I'm saying, and they should jump on it in the interim. Yes, I realize they are busting their butts to get a CATOBAR carrier up and running, and that will come soon enough no doubt.

According to very recent rumors, there was quite a big commotion at SAC in the past two days or so. There were apparently VIP vehicles with plates of officials, a banner being put up inside SAC, and heavy police presence. Don't know if it's related to the FC-31 (now rumored to be known within the PLA as "J-35"), J-15, or something else.

Additionally, the FC-31 has been "continuously flying" for the past two days.

Will be interesting to see ... however I believe these rumours concerning a modified, enlarged third version of the FC-31 only when I see it.

Otherwise I wish to see more ... SOON ! :)

We've never seen J-11 with that kind of loadout either. Have we ever seen a J-11 or J-10 with full CAP loadout? I've seen a few good PS.

I don't think the FC-31 will gain official status with the PLAAF any time soon. It's hard enough dividing the resource among J-20, J-10B/C, J-16, and the Su-35.

Not only dummies, but actually life-shots:

And indeed. Each YJ-83K weights 715kg at the very least (newer YJ-83KH might be even heavier due to larger warhead), which means that the J-15 would have the guaranteed AAW payload of at least eight PL-12 BVRAAM (180kg), in addition to their two PL-8s (115kg). Interestingly, the PL-10 is lighter than the PL-8 (89kg), which means that it could carry two dedicated ECM pods as well.

Eight BVRAAMs and two SRAAMs is very good for a carrier fighter.
