ISIS/ISIL conflict in Syria/Iraq (No OpEd, No Politics)

Syria: Russian sappers clear mines and IEDs from school in Aleppo
gee Amigo Miragedriver, mid-December Mr. Putin's Propaganda ... and no other posts here ...

but don't worry, I'm pulling out (EDIT as was Obama from Iraq? LOL):

today ISIL drove away from Al-Bab/Qabasin then Bzaah:

... and from what I figured now, ISIL indeed is in Bzaah which would be an important point for the retreat from the whole (Qabasin and Al-Bab) pocket, which is shrinking quickly as also Government has been attacking it (from the south, including

(the gap south to Bzaah would be just about one mile wide)

EDIT
the point is the next post may be a pompous announcement of Al-Bab victory, which could mean (but wouldn't be included in a pompous announcement :) ISIL pulled off after it had been holding up for months, in more or less open terrain, inflicting significant losses on a major NATO army with air dominance

Czech story now: yet unidentified Czech citizen (a male) wanted to join ISIL in January of this year, got caught by Turks, who sent him back, and only recently he was put into pre-trial detention (he confessed (it was found out he had Liked :) jihadi videos in Twitter), faces from three to twelve years in prison ... assuming he's sane which I doubt)

first the article I was able to find in English
First Czech sentenced for attempt to join Islamic State

A court in the Czech Republic has convicted a Czech man of an attempt to join the Islamic State militants in Syria and sentenced him to three years and three months in prison.

The regional court in the western city of Plzen issued the verdict on Friday and also ordered Jan Silovsky to undergo psychiatric treatment.

The 22-year-old Silovsky became the first Czech indicted for such a crime. He pleaded guilty and expressed regret.

Silovsky was arrested last year in Turkey at the Istanbul international airport and sent back to the Czech Republic by Turkish authorities.

He appealed the sentence.

During the trial, he said he converted to Islam about four years ago.
and I add this: the trial was as closely watched here as if the guy had been Jihadi John, while in fact he was diagnosed with

and while he's legally sane, it appears he was a loner who wanted to commit suicide in the bizarre way of joining ISIL without any previous military experience or even interest in shooting, fighting, ... just die there (that's also what his mother told the media; the court hearings were not public) ... apparently he's made no specific contact with ISIL (even his "conversion to Islam" was just virtual!), so it looks like "nothing" to some people here, but of course it's dangerous as ISIL might've made him for example a VBIED driver

A lot is happening in Syria, but this matter looks especially interesting.

Moments ago, the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) Tiger Forces imposed full control over the town of Tadef after heavy clashes with ISIS insurgents on Sunday morning.

Tadef is located just one kilometer south of Al-Bab, a city in eastern Aleppo which Turkish-backed forces captured on Friday.

SAA artillery units and the Syrian Air Force heavily bombarded Tadef over the past week, thus paving the way for the Tiger Forces’ infantry to infiltrate the town.

Tens of ISIS militants were killed during the clashes. According to Al-Masdar News field correspondent Yusha Yuseef, the SAA is now dismantling mines inside Tadef.

Effectively, the

Is is not immediately clear if the Tiger Forces will initiate an assault on Al-Bab although they have been

Yesterday and largely unnoticed, the Syrian Arab Army successfully pushed through the ISIS lines in East Aleppo province, just South of the Al-Bab salient and linked with the SDF forces based in the North East of the county.
This maneuver has locked the Turkish forces into the positions they already hold and leaves no prospect of being able to advance further, without having to fight with either US or Russian backed forces.

The SAA now has a single front line orientated East to push to the Euphrates and to line up against Deir Hafir

The chances of the Turkish back rebels turning their guns onto the SDF is quite high, and I expect tensions to significantly increase in Manbij and (probably) Tall Rifat. They will also most likely clash with the SAA sporadically here and there, but the Russian-Turkish agreement should hold for now.

Asia Times republishes an analysis by "Sprengler" ( David P. Goldman ) from 2010 that explains the back ground of IS:

because it has become relevant again.
I do not agree with all of it ( strongly disagree with some of it ) but consider it to be worth rereading.
