The FC/J-31 discussion is a bit OT and may be moved to the other thread ?

Anyways: The WS-15 is rumored to be in the 190 kN wet thrust class, which is the same as the F-135. As such, I find it hard to believe that such an aircraft would only carry 2 BVRAAMs.

Or maybe the reason is WS-15 can't produce anywhere near 190KN thrust.

I guess still no hints on what engine is powering the J-20? Anything from the big-shrimps? It would be pretty awesome if it turned out to be a WS-10IPE.

The max value I have heard is 180 kN. Or at-least 180 kN is the target. They may have already achieved 155 kN to 160 kN.

From Russian sources it's around 160kN. It's not really worthwhile to speculate about the engines; in general we have no information and it's safe to assume they're still running some Al-31F variant.

Which supports the notion WS-15 is not close to 190kN thrust.

Last time I heard, everyone was talking about the J-20's engine was about 135-140KN. What's up with the 190 assertion?

Most sources I hear including rather official ones such is this say it is a 180kN engine:


Another source said that the prototype achieved 160kN but that was from a Western source which wasn't even sure who was making the WS-15 (Chengdu or Shenyang) and it was dated 2009. In this paper, the author cited Russian sources that say the engine is intended to be in the 18 ton class.

No, not your "point" at all. Vesicles was likely confused because he thought we were talking about the J-20's current engines, which are supposedly an AL-31 variant in the 135-140kN range. But we were actually discussing the WS-15, which has been speculated to produce anywhere from 180-200kN (though most sources say 180kN). You've been following the conversation, but you just pick out which ever comments seem to suggest lesser Chinese capability and agree with them, even if they were clearly based off confusion, because you couldn't tell, since you know nothing about engines (which has been proven time and time again).
