Looks different compared to the Canadian T-97NSR FTU.

Is this "Official"?

Could save the Canadians quite a bit of money. A FTU kit is not cheap and hard to put on. The modification was also irreversible.

The flat-top QBZ-95 (or an aftermarket modification) is making a comeback. It seems like it has been modified from the last time it was shown publicly.

They need to make those cheek welds higher, like with an adjustable cheek riser or something similar. If you want the small incremental gains in accuracy from a free-floating barrel, you also need to start talking about things like cheek weld and repeatable eye alignment, etc.

You can't have a true free-floating barrel in a gas-operated automatic weapon. As for the cheeks, some padding would do (as would further reducing the rail).

Of course you can. The SCAR-16/17 is a perfect example (I personally own two 17s). The gas piston is separated from the bolt carrier by 0.02" of space at rest and does not contact the bolt carrier until the bullet has already left the barrel.

Interesting; thanks for the info. As for the QBZ-95, we don't know if it has a free-floating barrel or not.
