Estonia receives first CV90 IFVs

Estonia's first 12 CV90 infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) were delivered on 7 October, the country's Ministry of Defence (MoD) has announced.

The vehicles are the first of 44 CV9035NL IFVs that the country agreed to buy from the Netherlands in October 2014. Also delivered on 7 October was one of the six Leopard 1 armoured engineering vehicles (AEVs) included in that purchase.

The remainder of the vehicles are due to be delivered by 2018. Estonia also purchased 37 CV9030N hulls from Norway in January that are to be converted into support vehicles.

That is a bit strange position of UK, giving that UK is on the way to leave EU. UK's opposition to a proposed EU army would be akin to Russian opposition or any other country for that matter.

The road to an EU army will be a long and difficult one, but that is the issue of its members', not an outsider's. UK was known to be a road block for an EU defense force. With UK leaving, the process has a better chance to move faster. The EU army may not need unanimous approval of members, like minded countries can start the first step by expanding the existing joint German-Franco brigade just like Euro zone within EU. The list of these countries is long enough to make it work, Germany, France, Czech, Poland (not very sure right now) and probably Sweden who want to work with other EU countries in defense but hesitate to join NATO (one opposition less, one supporter more).
